Job description

The role of Campus Pastor is fulfilled by one who has a deep love for the local church and a clear calling to lead the congregation of one of our regional campuses to accomplish the Great Commission and the Great Commandment. This posting is not for a specific, current opening, but instead is for applicants who want to be considered for future campuses and opportunities.
WHAT YOU WILL DO
Maintain and Grow a Healthy Church
  • Evaluate trends and build strategies to improve the health and growth of the campus. This includes reaching the unchurched/dechurched, salvations, baptisms, church membership, spiritual maturity, ministry involvement, mission involvement, small groups, discipleship classes, and all other key areas of church health.
  • For the growth of the congregation, the Campus Pastor (CP) functions as the vision caster for the campus. Each Saddleback campus shares the same macro-vision, core ministry models, signature ministries, branding, doctrine, and video teaching; however, each campus has a responsibility to reach and have a vision for its community.

Shepherd the Flock
  • Care for the congregation by providing counseling, prayer, hospital visits, serving communion, performing baptisms, weddings, and funerals, serving as Minister of the Day, and an all-around pastoral presence at weekend services and special events.
  • Engage relationally by meeting new people, discovering their stories, making connections, and continually looking for ways to guide them into taking the next step in their spiritual journey.

Develop Strong Staff and Volunteer Leaders
  • Build and develop an effective, impactful, and healthy staff team by leading the hiring processes, providing spiritual care, developing their skill sets, and empowering them for their work of ministry.
  • Champion the development of every member to be used by God in ministry. The CP is the primary recruiter and ministry mobilizer. They are the door opener for ministry involvement.

Have an Eye for the Details
  • Responsible for the annual budgeting process, financial oversight, staff budget management, cost control, etc.
  • Responsible for managing timesheet approvals and payroll changes.
  • Responsible for leading the hiring process for all staff positions at their campus.

WHAT YOU HAVE DONE
  • Led a local church or large ministry with multiple components
  • Built healthy and growing ministries
  • Communicated dynamically from the stage
  • Developed leaders in varied ministries
  • Supervised staff at all levels
  • Demonstrated continuous learning through university and seminary courses

WHO YOU ARE
  • Leader - A servant by example. Able to mobilize volunteers and staff. Understands strategy and the spirit in which we execute such strategy at Saddleback. Able to engage with large groups of attendees and members very quickly, relating to each individually while extending care and love.
  • Purpose Driven - Doesn't just understand Saddleback's Purpose Driven Church model but has our DNA, is a raving fan, and is called to build a PD Church as they lead others to live a life balancing the 5 purposes.
  • Innovator - An ability to contextualize ministry, provide solutions and creatively reach their community. An ability to try new ideas and not give up. Like a church planter, a CP is passionate about going into the unknown and building something out of nothing. Able to take risks and learn from failure.
  • Planner / Implementor - An ability to plan and implement large projects and ministry events. Able to handle details without losing perspective and collaborate with a team to accomplish objectives.
  • Builder - An ability to lead, develop, equip, and empower teams, volunteers, and staff for ministry. Able to see the value in volunteers and multiply volunteers constantly.
  • Implementor - Must be equally comfortable maintaining existing systems and ministries as well as developing/growing new ones.
  • Compelling Communicator - Able to connect one-on-one or in front of thousands, exuding love with relaxed energy. Able to cast vision and inspire the staff and the congregation into action. Assures believers and unbelievers alike that they are welcome and wanted.

WHAT WE OFFER
  • Highly competitive benefits plans. Health plans with employee low deductible medical (EPO and PPO), dental, and vision coverage at no cost to the employee. Family coverage is as low as $250 per month for full health benefits.
  • 403(b)-retirement plan with employer contribution.
