Registered Nurse (RN) Stroke Coordinator – RWJBarnabas Health

As a Registered Nurse (RN) Coordinator, a typical day may include:  

  • The stroke department is not a dedicated specific unit but rather a program that provides rapid evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment for patients experiencing strokes at Jersey City Medical Center.
  • The stroke coordinator's role is to coordinate the care during code strokes.  
  • The Stroke Coordinator interacts in a collaborative role with physicians, nurses, and other health care professionals to advance evidence-based practices related to stroke management.
  • Plans, organizes, directs, coordinates and controls clinical and administrative functions for Stroke Management services in accordance with hospital strategic plans.
  • Coordinator is responsible for completion of stroke measures data abstraction for both DNV accreditation and State of NJ primary stroke certification.
  • Participates in hospital wide initiatives in support of performance improvement, regulatory, and accreditation process overall.
  • Investigates high risk occurrences, develops plan of correction accordingly
  • Ensuring accurate and timely documentation within the electronic medical record to promote continuity and patient safety
  • Contributing your voice during interdisciplinary rounds, helping drive seamless communication and smooth transitions of care
  • Taking an active role in a highly collaborative team environment where shared accountability and teamwork directly impact outcomes

To be considered for this RN Coordinator opportunity, you must hold an active New Jersey Registered Nurse license in good standing or Multistate RN License with NJ Endorsement and a current American Heart Association BLS certification. Stroke Certification required within 1 year of Hire.  A bachelor’s degree in nursing is required, and as is prior patient care experience and comfort with electronic medical record systems (EMR) like EPIC.   Experience in stroke care, emergency department care, critical care, neuroscience, or quality improvement is strongly preferred.  This position offers a part time day, flexible schedule depending on department needs, allowing you to build strong patient relationships while maintaining balance.
