Description:

POSITION SUMMARY:

Sports Program Workers are responsible for the day-to-day activities involved in providing sports programming to our community.


Sports included at this site: Soccer, Flag Football, Tee Ball, Basketball, and Volleyball.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Work with children ages 2 to 17.
  • Work with adult program participants.
  • Coaching: Follow practice guidelines that ensure children are active and having fun.
  • Refereeing: Referee games for U8 & under and serve as Assistant Referees (ARs) at the U12 & above level.
  • Field Maintenance: Mowing (must be 18 years or older), raking, painting lines, and filling low spots.
  • Field Monitor: Ensure the safety of program participants and assist coaches as needed.
  • Concessions: Work at the snack bar, including sales, inventory, and cleanup.
  • Away Events: School functions, fundraisers, off-site clinics, and sales.
  • Driving a Little Bus: Must be 21 years or older with a valid driver’s license.
  • Cleaning: Set up, tear down, collect, and secure equipment at the end of the day.
  • Administration: Answer phones, perform light office duties, and complete data entry.

Soccer Site Lead Duties

  • USSF “F” License or higher for coaches working with U8 and above.
  • USSF “E” License or higher for coaches working with U12 and above.
  • USSF Certified Referee with an active license and the ability to train, hire, and develop referees.

The Program Coordinator must have the skills to complete the Director’s tasks in their absence.
The Offsite Program/Event Coordinator must have the skills to run a program when the Director is off-site.
Referee Duties:

  • USSF Certified Referee with an active license (Grade 8 or higher).

Assigned game pay rates for USSF Certified Referees:

  • Soccer U12+ (Referee 1): $30 per game
  • Soccer U12+ Assistant Referee: $15 per game
  • Soccer U10 (Referee 2): $20 per game
  • Soccer U8 and under: $12.44 per hour
  • Flag Football (Referee 2 – all age groups): $20 per game
  • Flag Football Assistant Referee: $15 per game
  • Flag Football 3rd Assistant: $12.44 per hour

Note:

  • Certified staff rates are earned only when refereeing assigned shifts.
  • Lead staff rates are earned only when coaching or refereeing scheduled/assigned shifts.
  • When serving as general program or field support, staff will be classified as Soccer Program Workers and paid the Soccer Program Worker rate.

Requirements:

REQUIREMENTS & QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Basic understanding of organizational skills, public relations and interpersonal skills.
  • Desire and ability to work with and supervise volunteers, program participants and other YMCA employees as needed.
  • Ability to work unsupervised and stay on task.
  • Ability to represent the YMCA in a mature and professional manner.
  • Complete certification in First Aid, Infant/Child CPR and Adult CPR within 30 days.
  • Complete assigned training certifications upon request and completed on time.
  • Must enjoy working with kids.
  • High School Graduate or at least 16 years of age and attending school.
  • Employees 14 & 15, completed Young Referee / Coach Program.


YMCA SAFETY REQUIREMENTS:
CPR & First Aid – Must be able to complete and maintain certification in CPR and First Aid; able to assist individuals in need until professional help arrives.

Emergency Response – Ability to quickly identify emergency situations (medical, fire, environmental, etc.) and respond appropriately following established procedures.

Incident Management – Required to report all safety incidents and hazards immediately and accurately to supervisors.

Safe Environment – Commitment to maintaining a safe, clean, and hazard-free environment for all staff, members, and participants.

Physical Readiness – Must be able to perform physical tasks related to safety, including assisting individuals of various ages and physical abilities.

Compliance – Follow all YMCA safety protocols, OSHA standards, and state/local regulations as applicable.
