What is partnerships marketing?

Partnerships marketing is a strategy where businesses collaborate with other organizations, brands, or individuals to achieve mutual marketing goals. This can involve co-branded campaigns, joint events, content collaborations, or shared promotions that benefit both parties. The key objective is to reach new audiences, increase brand awareness, and drive growth by leveraging the strengths and customer bases of each partner. Professionals in partnerships marketing build and manage these relationships, ensuring that both sides gain value from the collaboration.

How does a partnerships marketing professional typically collaborate with internal teams and external partners?

Partnerships Marketing professionals regularly coordinate with internal teams such as product, sales, and communications to ensure partnership initiatives align with company goals and brand messaging. Externally, they work closely with partner organizations to design co-marketing campaigns, negotiate deliverables, and measure joint success metrics. Effective communication, project management, and relationship-building skills are essential, as these professionals often serve as the primary liaison between their company and its partners, ensuring that all parties remain aligned and objectives are met.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a partnerships marketing professional, and why are they important?

To excel in Partnerships Marketing, you need a solid understanding of marketing strategy, relationship management, and business development, often backed by a bachelor’s degree in marketing, business, or a related field. Familiarity with CRM platforms, analytics tools, and digital marketing systems like Salesforce, HubSpot, or Google Analytics is typically required. Excellent communication, negotiation, and collaboration skills help professionals build and maintain strong partner relationships. These skills and qualifications are crucial for driving mutually beneficial partnerships, maximizing campaign impact, and achieving organizational growth.

Director of Community Partnerships & Marketing
Location: Orange County, CA
Employment Type: Full-Time
Salary Range: $100,000–$120,000 annually
Organization: Concord Preparatory School
About Concord Preparatory School
Concord Preparatory School is a private high school serving students in grades 9–12 in Orange County, California. As the school continues to grow, we are seeking a highly connected, hands-on marketing and community partnerships leader to expand our presence throughout Orange County, build meaningful local relationships, and drive student enrollment.
Position Overview
The Director of Community Partnerships & Marketing will lead Concord Preparatory School’s local outreach, partnership development, community engagement, and offline marketing efforts.
This is a highly hands-on, relationship-driven position. We are looking for someone who enjoys being out in the community—meeting people, attending events, developing partnerships, identifying new opportunities, and personally turning relationships into measurable enrollment opportunities.
The ideal candidate has a strong understanding of the Orange County community and an established local professional network.
Prior experience in the education industry is not required. Candidates from business development, community relations, partnerships, field marketing, events, hospitality, real estate, nonprofit organizations, professional services, or other relationship-driven industries are encouraged to apply.
Key Responsibilities
Community Partnerships & Business Development
  • Build and maintain relationships with businesses, community organizations, professional associations, nonprofits, local leaders, and other strategic partners throughout Orange County.
  • Identify and personally pursue new partnership opportunities that increase awareness of Concord Preparatory School.
  • Develop mutually beneficial partnerships, sponsorships, referral relationships, and community programs.
  • Represent the school at local networking events, community events, business functions, and partnership meetings.
  • Continuously identify new organizations, events, communities, and individuals that can connect the school with prospective families.
Local & Offline Marketing
  • Develop and execute grassroots and field marketing strategies across Orange County.
  • Identify relevant local events, fairs, festivals, community programs, networking opportunities, and sponsorship opportunities.
  • Personally coordinate and participate in events, including outreach, partnership discussions, event preparation, on-site engagement, lead collection, and post-event follow-up.
  • Develop creative ways to introduce Concord Preparatory School to new communities and prospective families.
  • Build the school's visibility and reputation within Orange County.
Lead Generation & Enrollment Growth
  • Generate qualified prospective student and family leads through community partnerships, events, referrals, networking, and local outreach.
  • Develop new lead-generation channels beyond traditional digital advertising.
  • Build relationships that can create sustainable referral pipelines for student enrollment.
  • Partner with the Admissions team to ensure leads generated through community outreach are appropriately tracked and followed up.
  • Monitor partnership and event performance and identify which channels generate the strongest enrollment opportunities.
Marketing Leadership
  • Develop marketing initiatives that support the school's enrollment and brand awareness goals.
  • Collaborate with the Digital Marketing Specialist to connect offline campaigns with digital marketing efforts.
  • Provide direction on local campaigns, community messaging, events, partnerships, and promotional initiatives.
  • Ensure marketing activities are aligned with the school's overall growth strategy.
  • Track results and provide regular updates on partnerships, events, leads, and community outreach activities.
Qualifications
  • 5+ years of experience in marketing, business development, partnerships, community relations, field marketing, events, sales, or a related field.
  • Strong knowledge of Orange County and an existing professional or community network within the region is highly preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience personally developing partnerships and building relationships with external organizations.
  • Strong networking, communication, presentation, and relationship-building skills.
  • Proven ability to generate leads or business opportunities through partnerships, events, community outreach, or business development.
  • Comfortable initiating conversations, making introductions, attending networking events, and developing relationships from the ground up.
  • Strong project execution skills with the ability to take an initiative from idea through implementation and follow-up.
  • Self-motivated and comfortable working in a growing organization where priorities may evolve quickly.
  • Ability and willingness to travel locally throughout Orange County and attend occasional evening or weekend community events.
  • Bachelor's degree preferred.
What We're Looking For
We are especially interested in someone who:
  • Already knows Orange County and has meaningful connections within the local community.
  • Is a natural relationship builder who enjoys meeting new people.
  • Is comfortable personally reaching out to businesses, organizations, community leaders, and potential partners.
  • Can turn relationships and community engagement into measurable leads and enrollment opportunities.
  • Is equally comfortable developing a strategy and personally executing it.
  • Takes ownership of projects rather than relying heavily on a large team for execution.
  • Thinks creatively about partnerships, events, referrals, and grassroots marketing opportunities.
  • Is energetic, resourceful, organized, and results-oriented.
Ideal Backgrounds
Education industry experience is a plus, but not required.
We welcome candidates with successful backgrounds in areas such as:
  • Community Partnerships
  • Business Development
  • Community Relations
  • Field Marketing
  • Event & Experiential Marketing
  • Local Market Development
  • Strategic Partnerships
  • Local Business Development
The most important factors are your Orange County network, relationship-building ability, hands-on execution, and ability to create new opportunities for the school.
