What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Partner Engineer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Partner Engineer, you need a solid background in software engineering, API integration, and technical troubleshooting, often supported by a degree in computer science or a related field. Familiarity with common programming languages, cloud platforms, and collaboration tools, as well as certifications like AWS Certified Solutions Architect or Google Cloud Professional, is typically required. Excellent communication, problem-solving abilities, and relationship-building skills help you effectively support partners and bridge gaps between technical and non-technical teams. These skills ensure smooth integration, foster long-term partnerships, and drive business growth through successful technical collaborations.

How do Partner Engineers typically collaborate with external partners and internal teams to ensure successful product integrations?

Partner Engineers play a key role in bridging the gap between external partners and internal development or product teams. They often provide technical guidance, troubleshoot integration obstacles, and communicate partner feedback to internal stakeholders. Regular collaboration involves leading technical workshops, managing integration documentation, and ensuring both parties are aligned on project goals and technical requirements. This role requires strong communication skills and the ability to balance partner needs with internal priorities, fostering smooth and effective integrations.

What are Partner Engineers?

Partner Engineers are technical professionals who serve as a bridge between a company and its external partners, such as clients, vendors, or integration collaborators. Their primary role is to help partners successfully integrate and use the company's products or APIs, ensuring technical compatibility and smooth onboarding. They work closely with both internal engineering teams and partner organizations, providing technical support, troubleshooting, and guidance throughout the partnership. This role often requires a mix of technical expertise, problem-solving skills, and strong communication abilities.

Job description

Job Summary:
A Senior Partner Engineer, Databricks Alliance, is the principal technical advisor and advocate for the Sigma-Databricks partnership, both internally at Sigma and externally with Databricks. This role requires a deep, current, and comprehensive understanding of both the Sigma and Databricks products and the differentiated value they deliver together to joint customers. The Senior Partner Engineer provides technical thought leadership and strategic guidance across the partnership lifecycle, including: enabling technical sales and solution development, managing high-priority technical engagements, driving enablement for field teams, and contributing to overall revenue growth and customer success.
Responsibilities:
  • Strategic Technical Alliance Leadership: Serve as the primary technical leader and advocate for the Sigma Computing/Databricks strategic alliance. Drive the mutual success of joint customers by ensuring seamless technical integration, optimal performance, and maximized utilization of the Databricks platform and Sigma.
  • Deepen and Expand Stakeholder Relationships: Cultivate and maintain robust technical relationships with key personnel at Databricks, including Product Management, Partner Leadership, Solution Engineering, and Sales teams, to ensure strategic alignment, drive co-innovation, and facilitate joint account mapping.
  • Joint Go-to-Market (GTM) Enablement and Execution: Proactively collaborate with Sigma's GTM teams to identify, qualify, and technically support strategic joint customer opportunities. Develop and champion compelling technical GTM solutions, reference architectures, and partner-facing enablement content (e.g., training, workshops, internal demos).
  • Platform Integration and Future-Proofing: Proactively identify and scope high-value joint product opportunities and facilitate the handoff to the Partner Architect team for deeper technical engagement and development.
  • Cross-Functional Technical Subject Matter Expert (SME): Act as the internal authority on the Databricks platform, providing expert technical guidance and training to Sigma's Sales Engineering, Product, and Engineering teams on best practices for leveraging Databricks features in conjunction with Sigma. Own the creation and maintenance of technical resources for the field, including deep-dive enablement sessions (e.g., HOLs, workshops).
  • Content and Event Technical Leadership: Lead the technical creation of joint thought-leadership content, including webinars, blogs, solution briefs, demo vignettes, and presentations for major industry events (e.g., Data and AI Summit, Data and AI World Tours). Coordinate with Sigma's Marketing and Demo Engineering teams to ensure high-quality technical representation at all joint GTM activities.
  • Advanced Solution Development: Identify, design, and evangelize high-value, industry-specific technical solutions leveraging the combined capabilities of Sigma and Databricks, working with internal teams, Systems Integrator partners, and Databricks Industry Leads and Field CTOs to package these solutions for field consumption.

Qualifications:
  • 5+ years of experience in a highly technical customer-facing or partner-focused role, such as Technical Alliance Management, Solution Engineering, Product Management, or Technical Consulting.
  • Deep and current hands-on experience with the Databricks Data Intelligence Platform is mandatory. Proven understanding of its core architecture, features, and ecosystem integrations.
  • Strong technical background in data analytics, data warehousing, business intelligence, and cloud data platforms.
  • Prior Data Engineering and Front-End Software Development experience is preferred.
  • Prior experience working with BI and Analytics platforms is required; experience with Sigma Computing is a plus.
  • Proven ability to develop and maintain strong, mutually beneficial technical relationships with key stakeholders at major partner organizations (e.g., Product, Engineering, Partner Sales).
  • Exceptional communication and presentation skills, with the ability to translate complex technical concepts into clear, compelling business value for both technical and non-technical executive audiences.
  • Demonstrated ability to be a self-starter who thrives in a fast-paced, high-growth startup environment and can manage multiple priorities independently.
  • Willingness to travel up to 50% of the time for partner and customer engagements, and company/industry events.
