Partner Director information

What is a partner director?

A Partner Director is a senior leadership position responsible for managing and developing strategic relationships with key partners, such as other companies, vendors, or organizations. They identify opportunities for collaboration, negotiate partnership agreements, and ensure mutually beneficial outcomes. Partner Directors often work closely with internal teams to align partner activities with the company's goals, drive revenue growth, and expand market reach. Their role is crucial in building long-term partnerships that support business objectives.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a partner director?

To thrive as a Partner Director, you need expertise in strategic partnership management, business development, and a proven track record in leadership, typically supported by a relevant degree and extensive industry experience. Familiarity with CRM platforms, partnership management tools, and contract negotiation systems is commonly required. Exceptional relationship-building, negotiation, and communication skills help foster strong alliances and drive collaborative success. These competencies are crucial for developing high-value partnerships that align with organizational goals and deliver measurable business results.

What are some common challenges partner directors face when managing strategic alliances, and how can they overcome them?

Partner Directors often encounter challenges such as aligning organizational goals across different companies, navigating complex stakeholder relationships, and ensuring clear communication between teams. Successfully overcoming these hurdles requires strong negotiation skills, the ability to build consensus, and a proactive approach to conflict resolution. Regular check-ins, transparent reporting structures, and fostering a culture of collaboration are also key strategies that help maintain productive partnerships and drive mutual success.

Job description

About Team / Role
The Director, HRBP is a high-impact, executive-level people strategist who serves as a trusted advisor to WEX's Executive Leadership Team (ELT) and Senior Leadership Team (SLT) within the Corporate organizations. Reporting directly to the VP of Business Excellence & Strategic HRBP Partnerships, this leader acts as the primary architect of workforce capability, talent density, and structural agility across the business.
The ideal candidate is a data-driven, business grounded changemaker who excels at translating complex business roadmaps into proactive organizational designs. This leader will play a critical role in advancing WEX's transition toward an AI-native operating model, shifting HR delivery from a responsive support function to a predictive, prescriptive consulting engine that directly drives enterprise velocity and growth. This position involves leading, growing, and developing a small team.
This position is flexible for a hybrid schedule based out of Portland, ME.
How You'll Make an Impact
  • Executive Advisory & Coaching: Serve as a strategic partner and executive coach to ELT and SLT members, influencing high-stakes business decisions, leadership modeling, and succession planning.
  • Organizational Architecture & Design: Lead macro-level organizational design initiatives, conducting comprehensive structural assessments to eliminate operational drag, reduce sequential bottlenecks, and optimize cross-functional velocity.
  • Strategic Workforce Transformation: Collaborate with leadership to translate AI initiatives into practical workforce design, role evolution, and upskilling strategies for the business
  • Change Leadership: Act as a core architect for large-scale change management initiatives, structural reorganizations, and corporate integrations, ensuring a unified front and seamless talent continuity during major corporate transitions.
  • Talent & Succession Strategy: Design and execute robust, data-backed talent strategies that elevate the global talent density footprint and secure leadership pipelines for business-critical seats.
  • Cross-Functional Governance: Partner seamlessly with HR Centers of Excellence (Total Rewards, Global Talent Acquisition, Talent Management, Employee Relations, and Workforce IQ) to ensure enterprise people programs are customized and flawlessly executed to meet specific business objectives.
  • Data-Driven Prescriptive Consulting: Combine business metrics, talent data, and market trends to help leaders solve organizational challenges, address capacity constraints, and retain critical talent.

Experience You'll Bring
  • Undergraduate degree in Human Resources, Business Administration or a related field
  • 10+ years of progressive HR leadership experience
  • Significant experience operating in a large global organization
  • Ability to leverage data-driven insights to influence the "why" of business decisions.
  • Proven success in leading large-scale restructures and complex M&As.
  • Demonstrated ability to build trust and credibility with executive leaders as a "Trusted Advisor".
  • Ability to influence, challenge, and coach executives with a data-driven and objective perspective.
  • A steady leader who can navigate ambiguity and maintain organizational focus during periods of change.
  • Systems thinker capable of moving away from individual HR function thinking to broader employee lifecycle thinking.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's Degree
  • Professional Certification: SPHR, SHRM-SCP, or executive coaching certification.

The base pay range represents the anticipated low and high end of the pay range for this position. Actual pay rates will vary and will be based on various factors, such as your qualifications, skills, competencies, and proficiency for the role. Base pay is one component of WEX's total compensation package. Most sales positions are eligible for commission under the terms of an applicable plan. Non-sales roles are typically eligible for a quarterly or annual bonus based on their role and applicable plan. WEX's comprehensive and market competitive benefits are designed to support your personal and professional well-being. Benefits include health, dental and vision insurances, retirement savings plan, paid time off, health savings account, flexible spending accounts, life insurance, disability insurance, tuition reimbursement, and more.
