Job description

If you're passionate about commercial real estate, enjoy solving complex problems, and want to play a meaningful role in creating communities from the ground up, this opportunity was built for you.
Based in Hanover's Los Angeles office, this full-time Development Associate position offers the opportunity to work directly with Hanover's Multifamily Development Partner on the acquisition, entitlement, and development of multifamily communities throughout Southern California. You'll help identify and evaluate new development opportunities, coordinate project entitlements, and collaborate with architects, engineers, contractors, attorneys, city officials, and industry partners to bring new communities to life.
This isn't a role where every day looks the same. One day you may be touring a potential development site, meeting with city officials, coordinating with consultants, preparing investment materials, or participating in due diligence on a property under contract. Every project offers the opportunity to contribute to communities that will shape Southern California for years to come.
Because Hanover is vertically integrated, you'll gain exposure to the entire multifamily development lifecycle, from identifying new opportunities through construction, property operations, and long-term ownership.
Why Hanover?
  • Work directly with Hanover's Multifamily Development Partner in a collaborative, high-performing environment
  • Work on high-profile multifamily developments throughout Southern California
  • Gain exposure to every stage of the development process - from site selection and entitlements through construction and project delivery
  • Build relationships with industry professionals across every stage of the development process
  • Make a visible impact from day one - not years down the road
  • Collaborative, entrepreneurial culture where ideas and initiative are valued
  • Company-paid medical, dental, vision, life insurance, and disability coverage for employees, including generous paid time off programs
  • Competitive compensation ($100,000 - $140,000 for this position) and bonus program that rewards performance and contribution

The people who thrive in this role are naturally curious and enjoy turning ideas into reality. They ask thoughtful questions, build strong relationships, and aren't intimidated by complex projects with multiple moving pieces. They take initiative, enjoy solving problems, and are excited by the opportunity to help create communities that people will call home for years to come.
Whether your experience comes from development, acquisitions, brokerage, finance, construction, or another area of commercial real estate, we're looking for someone who's eager to broaden their expertise and take on greater responsibility. If you're analytical, resourceful, and thrive in a fast-paced environment, you'll fit right in.
Responsibilities Include
  • Evaluate multifamily development opportunities through market research, financial analysis, underwriting, and strategic due diligence
  • Research market trends, demographic data, comparable developments, and other information used to identify, evaluate, and prioritize new multifamily development projects
  • Prepare development memoranda, investment summaries, presentations, and other materials used to support acquisition opportunities, new business pursuits, and development decisions
  • Build and maintain productive relationships with brokers, lenders, equity partners, property owners, and other key industry stakeholders
  • Coordinate project entitlements by working with municipalities, public agencies, architects, engineers, attorneys, consultants, and Hanover's construction team, including attending meetings with city officials and other stakeholders to advance projects through the approval process
  • Participate in the due diligence process on properties under contract, identify potential risks, and summarize findings that may impact project feasibility or investment returns
  • Monitor the progress of development transactions, project milestones, and critical deadlines to help ensure projects move efficiently through the development process
Prepare financial analyses, presentations, reports, and other special projects as assigned
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree required; MBA or graduate degree in a related field a plus
  • One to three years of experience in commercial real estate, development, acquisitions, brokerage, finance, construction, or a related field
  • Strong quantitative, analytical, and creative-thinking abilities
  • Excellent problem-solving skills with the ability to think independently and take initiative
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to build effective working relationships
  • Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining accuracy and meeting deadlines
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
  • High level of energy and commitment to working in a fast-paced, dynamic, and collaborative environment
  • Experience with the California entitlement process and knowledge of the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) is a plus
  • Ability to travel throughout Southern California as needed to visit development sites, attend meetings with public agencies, and support project activities
