What are part-time jobs?

Part-time jobs are positions in which employees work fewer hours per week than full-time employees, typically less than 35-40 hours. These jobs often offer more flexible schedules, making them ideal for students, parents, or anyone needing to balance work with other commitments. Part-time roles can be found in a variety of industries, such as retail, food service, healthcare, and administration. Benefits and pay may vary compared to full-time positions, and some part-time jobs may not offer benefits like health insurance or paid time off.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a part-time worker, and why are they important?

To thrive as a part-time worker, you generally need reliability, time management, a willingness to learn, and the relevant educational or experience requirements for the specific role. Familiarity with point-of-sale systems, scheduling software, or other job-specific tools is often beneficial. Strong communication, adaptability, and teamwork are valuable soft skills that help part-time employees integrate quickly into existing teams. These skills and qualities are important because part-time roles often require flexibility and the ability to contribute effectively within limited hours.

What are some common challenges faced by part-time employees, and how can they overcome them?

Part-time employees often face challenges such as limited access to benefits, inconsistent scheduling, and fewer opportunities for advancement compared to full-time staff. To overcome these, it's helpful to communicate availability clearly, proactively seek feedback, and express interest in professional development opportunities. Building strong relationships with colleagues and supervisors can also lead to greater flexibility and consideration for future full-time roles. Staying organized and adaptable is key to balancing work with other commitments.

Job description

Part-Time Merchandiser (Weekends + Flexible Weekday)

Company: Peninsula Bottling

Location: PortAngeles / Sequim / Surrounding Areas

Position Type: Part-Time (Weekends required, plus potential for 1 weekday)

Why You’ll Love This Role

Looking for a dynamic part-time role that keeps you moving, offers independent control over your day, and fits perfectly around your week? As a Part-Time Merchandiser, you are the face of our brands on the local circuit. You’ll ensure our products look great, stay stocked, and are ready for customers to grab and enjoy.

If you love a fast-paced environment where you can work independently, build great local relationships, and stay active (think of it as getting paid to workout!), this is the perfect gig for you.

What You’ll Do (Key Responsibilities)

You’ll be the champion of our product presentation across local retail and grocery stores. Your day-to-day will include:

  • Creating Eye-Catching Displays: Stock, rotate, and arrange products on shelves, in coolers, and in promotional displays so they always look pristine.
  • Owning Your Space: Organize backrooms and inventory storage, ensuring everything is safe, neat, and easy to access.
  • Building Connections: Be a friendly, reliable face for store managers and staff, building strong partnerships at every stop.
  • Cruising Your Route: Drive a company vehicle (or your personal vehicle if local to your hometown, like Sequim or Port Townsend) to service your designated accounts.
  • Working Autonomously: Manage your own pace and stay productive while working independently.

What It Takes (Physical Requirements)

This is a high-energy, labor-intensive position. You'll stay in great shape by:

  • Repeatedly lifting, loading, pushing, and pulling cases weighing 20–45 lbs over an 8 to 12-hour shift.
  • Bending, reaching, and squatting to keep shelves looking perfect.

Qualifications

  • Must be 18 years or older.
  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record (so you can be insured on our company vehicles should that apply).
  • Reliable, predictable attendance—especially on weekends and holidays, our busiest times!
  • Ability to pass a background check, drug screen, and physical capabilities test.

Bonus Points If You Have Experience In:

  • Retail or grocery environments (understanding backroom operations, stocking aisles).
  • Moving product safely using equipment like U-boats, hand trucks, or pallet jacks.
  • Customer service or account relationship building.
