How much do part time jobs pay per year?

As of Aug 17, 2026, the average yearly pay for part time in Illinois is $82,724.00, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $56,700.00 and $93,500.00 per year, depending on experience, location, and employer.

What are part-time jobs?

Part-time jobs are positions in which employees work fewer hours per week than full-time employees, typically less than 35-40 hours. These jobs often offer more flexible schedules, making them ideal for students, parents, or anyone needing to balance work with other commitments. Part-time roles can be found in a variety of industries, such as retail, food service, healthcare, and administration. Benefits and pay may vary compared to full-time positions, and some part-time jobs may not offer benefits like health insurance or paid time off.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a part-time worker, and why are they important?

To thrive as a part-time worker, you generally need reliability, time management, a willingness to learn, and the relevant educational or experience requirements for the specific role. Familiarity with point-of-sale systems, scheduling software, or other job-specific tools is often beneficial. Strong communication, adaptability, and teamwork are valuable soft skills that help part-time employees integrate quickly into existing teams. These skills and qualities are important because part-time roles often require flexibility and the ability to contribute effectively within limited hours.

What are some common challenges faced by part-time employees, and how can they overcome them?

Part-time employees often face challenges such as limited access to benefits, inconsistent scheduling, and fewer opportunities for advancement compared to full-time staff. To overcome these, it's helpful to communicate availability clearly, proactively seek feedback, and express interest in professional development opportunities. Building strong relationships with colleagues and supervisors can also lead to greater flexibility and consideration for future full-time roles. Staying organized and adaptable is key to balancing work with other commitments.

Job description

About Local Eclectic

Local Eclectic is a Chicago-based fine jewelry company with wholesale partnerships including Nordstrom, Anthropologie, and Free People. We're expanding beyond e-commerce with a flagship retail store and café opening at 212 E. Ontario in downtown Chicago — adding an in-person, high-touch dimension to a highly engaged, authentic customer base.

After more than a decade of success and exponential growth, founder Alexis Nido-Russo and the Local
Eclectic team have put down roots in the heart of Streeterville at 212 E. Ontario Street.
Unlike anything of its kind in Chicago, our flagship store is more than a retail destination—it's an oasis in
the center of the downtown bustle where guests can discover beautiful jewelry, enjoy exceptional coffee
and light fare, and experience the unique spirit of Local Eclectic.
If you're passionate about hospitality and would love to work in a beautiful, welcoming space, we'd love to
hear from you.
Position Overview:
Local Eclectic is looking for an enthusiastic, customer-focused Part-Time Barista to join our café team at
our beautiful flagship location in the heart of Streeterville. We're seeking someone who enjoys creating exceptional coffee, providing outstanding hospitality, and helping guests feel at home in a one-of-a-kind retail and café environment. If you are exciting to bring the Local Eclectic brand to life IRL for the first time ever, we look forward to meeting you!
Details:
  • Part-time position
  • Day and evening shifts available
  • Light food preparation and service
Qualifications:
  • Barista experience required
  • Experience operating a La Marzocco espresso machine is a strong plus
  • Friendly, reliable, positive attitude and team-oriented
  • Passion for coffee, hospitality, making people smile and outstanding customer service
