Job description

The Zhu Laboratory at Mayo Clinic Rochester is seeking a part-time Animal Care Technician to provide high-quality care for zebrafish models, with opportunities to also work with murine models.

Primary responsibilities include routine animal husbandry and colony maintenance, such as feeding, water quality monitoring, health assessments, breeding, embryo sanitization, and cleaning of tanks and facility spaces. The successful candidate will also assist laboratory members in monitoring tumor development in zebrafish and and mouse models and in harvesting tissues for downstream analysis.

Requires a minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent. Prior experience handling research animals is preferred. 

The ideal candidate is responsible, detail-oriented, and able to work both independently with minimal supervision and collaboratively within a research team. Strict adherence to established protocols is essential, including compliance with the NIH Guide for the Care and Use of Laboratory Animals, the Animal Welfare Act, and guidelines set by the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) and AAALAC.

Availability for weekend shifts is preferred.
