The Editorial Writer, Part-Time is responsible for producing engaging, high-quality written content covering the Seattle Kraken, including feature stories, practice coverage, game recaps, and other editorial content. This role requires strong storytelling skills, a passion for hockey, and the ability to work collaboratively with internal stakeholders to deliver timely, accurate, and compelling content that connects with fans and supports organizational objectives. Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Write feature stories, player profiles, game recaps, practice reports, and other editorial content related to the Seattle Kraken.
  • Attend Seattle Kraken practices, games, media availabilities, and team events assigned to gather information and develop content.
  • Conduct interviews with players, coaches, staff, and other relevant stakeholders to create compelling stories.
  • Produce accurate, timely, and engaging content that aligns with organizational voice, brand standards, and editorial strategy.
  • Collaborate with Communications, Marketing, Social Media, and Hockey Operations teams to support content initiatives and organizational priorities.
  • Stay current on NHL news, trends, statistics, and storylines to identify relevant content opportunities.
  • Meet deadlines while managing multiple assignments in a fast-paced environment.
  • Maintain good attendance and punctuality.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Required Experience & Qualifications:
  • Minimum two (2) years of writing experience, preferably in a professional sports, media, journalism, or editorial environment.
  • Strong knowledge of the NHL, hockey terminology, players, and league operations.
  • Demonstrated ability to write compelling long-form and short-form content for diverse audiences.
  • Experience conducting interviews and gathering information from multiple sources.
  • Ability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as required by team schedules and events.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with an expert ability to present and communicate new ideas and concepts.
  • Extremely organized and detail oriented, resourceful, quick learner and able to handle multiple projects simultaneously.
  • A high degree of personal integrity and consistently put the interests of the organization first.

  • Compensation:
    • In accordance with Washington's Equal Pay and Opportunity Act, the expected salary range for this position is $27/hr - $31/hr. Actual base pay will depend on employee's experience and other job-related factors permitted by law.
    • This role is classified as part-time, non-exempt (hourly).

Working Conditions:
  • This role is based on-site in our Seattle office and Climate Pledge Arena and requires work to be performed in person. However, we do value flexibility as the business will allow and offer occasional opportunities to work from home.
  • Minimal Travel (< 10% travel): May be required to travel. Trips may require air travel and/or overnight stay away from home for one or more nights.
  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule inclusive of weekends, nights and holidays required
  • Frequent bending, lifting 15-20 pounds, sitting, exposure to multiple external elements, extensive walking through the building including inclines and stairs.
