Job Summary/Description:

Are you a wordsmith who can turn a complex news story into a conversational masterpiece in the time it takes to brew a cup of coffee? We’re looking for a Part-Time Writer to join the Good Morning Arizona team — the most fun, high-energy morning show in the desert. This isn't about writing dry, robotic scripts; it’s about crafting the voice of the morning for Phoenix, delivering news with personality, urgency, and absolute accuracy while the clock is ticking. If you can write for the ear, nail the details, and keep your cool when the "On Air" light starts flashing, we want to talk to you.

Duties/Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

What You'll Do:
• Write with punch: Craft sharp, conversational scripts that sound like a person talking, not a news bot, ensuring our anchors connect authentically with viewers.
• Beat the clock: Thrive under the pressure of tight morning deadlines, delivering clean, ready-to-air copy without breaking a sweat.
• Own the accuracy: Double-check every fact, name, and number—because in our newsroom, being first only matters if you’re also 100% right.
• Drive digital engagement: Adapt your scripts for our digital platforms, ensuring our stories are just as compelling on a smartphone screen as they are on a 65-inch TV.
• Collaborate in real-time: Work closely with producers and editors to marry your words with the best video and graphics, creating a seamless experience for our audience.
• Stay agile: Pivot quickly when breaking news hits, rewriting on the fly to keep our coverage urgent and relevant.

What You Bring:
• Conversational chops: You have a "killer" writing style that is natural, engaging, and perfectly suited for the fast-paced GMAZ vibe.
• Deadline discipline: You don't just meet deadlines; you beat them, maintaining high quality even when the pressure is at its peak.
• Journalistic integrity: You have a hawk-eye for detail and a commitment to accuracy that never wavers, no matter how fast we’re moving.
• Digital-first mindset: You understand how to pivot content for social and streaming platforms (because news happens everywhere now).
• A "Self-Starter" engine: You’re eager to learn, quick to adapt, and ready to jump in wherever the team needs you most.
• Flexibility: You’re a morning person (or a very good actor) who is ready to handle the unique schedule and pace of a top-tier morning show.

Why This Role Rocks:
• The GMAZ Vibe: You’ll be part of a legendary team that values creativity, humor, and high-energy storytelling.
• Real-World Impact: Your words will reach hundreds of thousands of Arizonans every morning, helping them start their day informed and energized.
• Growth Potential: This is a fantastic foot in the door at Gray Media, where we prioritize internal growth and mentorship.
• Fast-Paced Fun: No two mornings are the same here—you’ll be at the heart of the action in a resource-rich, modern newsroom.

Ready to write the future of morning news in Arizona? Let's create something amazing together.

Qualifications/Requirements:

Education:
- Bachelor's Degree in Journalism, broadcasting, related field or equivalent work experience.

Specific Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Ability to work under pressure, adapt to change, meet deadlines, work well as a team, and work independently. Exceptional communication skills and excellent knowledge of current events.
