The Department of Humanities and Communication at the College of Arts and Sciences in Prescott, Arizona is seeking to fill two 9-month, full-time, non-tenure track faculty positions starting in August 2025 or January 2026. These are ranked, renewable positions, with opportunities for promotion.

Responsibilities:

  • Teaching load is 24 credit hours per academic year (fall and spring semesters). Summer teaching is available and additionally compensated.

  • Primary teaching responsibilities include first year composition, professional writing, and rhetoric, with the opportunity to teach cultural studies, and humanities. The successful candidate will collaborate with other faculty on developing new courses and perform course and program assessments.

  • Preference will be given to applicants with experience in collaborative teaching, writing across the curriculum, and practical teaching students in STEM majors.

Successful candidates will also support the department, college, and campus through service.

Qualifications

Minimum

Ph.D. in Writing Studies, Rhetoric and Composition, Technical and Professional Writing, or related field at the time of the appointment.

Preferred

We are interested in candidates with expertise in one or more of the following areas:

  • Experience in participating in programmatic assessment and curriculum design for first-year writing and humanities courses.
  • Experience teaching technical writing and/or business communication courses that provide practical rhetorical knowledge to students in various majors.
  • Collaborative teaching, team-teaching, or writing across the curriculum
  • Professional experience writing in the disciplines, e.g., in intelligence-gathering communities, the gaming industry, engineering / simulations industries.
