Job description

Part-Time Choir Instructor
STEAMspark is seeking a dedicated and inspiring Part-Time Choir Instructor to help young children discover the joy of singing while fostering musicality, confidence, discipline, teamwork, and creative expression. Your role will involve planning and leading engaging choir classes for children beginning at age 4 that align with our Montessori and STEAM curriculum while creating a nurturing and inspiring learning environment.
Job Overview

As our Part-Time Choir Instructor, you'll guide small group choir classes for children beginning at age 4. Students will develop healthy vocal technique, musicianship, confidence, teamwork, and stage presence through engaging rehearsals and performances.
Work Schedule
  • Part-time position
  • Afternoon classes from 2:30 PM - 5:30 PM, one or two days per week
  • Exact schedule will be determined based on student enrollment and class grouping.

Key Responsibilities
Music Instruction & Ensemble Preparation
  • Teach age-appropriate choir classes for children beginning at age 4.
  • Develop healthy vocal technique, breathing, pitch matching, rhythm, diction, and beginning music literacy.
  • Prepare students for school performances and special events throughout the year.
  • Select engaging repertoire appropriate for students' developmental levels.
  • Prepare for and direct the Winter (December) and Spring (April/May) recitals.

Child Engagement & Growth
  • Create a positive and inclusive environment that fosters joy and confidence through singing.
  • Adapt instruction to meet a range of learning styles and developmental needs
  • Offer supportive feedback that encourages musical and personal growth.

Collaboration & Communication
  • Communicate regularly with families and school staff regarding progress, rehearsals, and performances.
  • Coordinate with other arts instructors for school programs and performances.
  • Maintain attendance and basic records for each student

Required Qualifications
  • Strong vocal performance skills.
  • Experience teaching choir or vocal music to children, preferably ages 4-10.
  • Enthusiasm for working in a nurturing Montessori-inspired environment
  • Clear communication and classroom management skills

Preferred Qualifications
  • Degree in Music Education, Vocal Performance, Choral Conducting, or related field (or equivalent experience).
  • Experience directing children's choirs.
  • Piano accompaniment skills are highly desirable.
  • CPR/First Aid Certification (or willingness to obtain)
