Description
POSITION SUMMARY:
Under the supervision of the Facilities Director, the Part Time Custodian makes sure that all areas are kept clean and orderly, including areas inside as well as outside the main building. May complete duties related to small maintenance repairs, meeting set up, ordering supplies, and other related duties as assigned.
They are responsible for managing these functions in accordance with the stated mission, goals, and policies established by the administrative staff, governing committees, and Board of Directors of the YMCA.
Job Schedule: Weeknights 5:00pm - 9:00pm / Weekends 12:00pm - 5pm.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Models relationship-building skills in all interactions with participants, parents, staff and leadership.
  • Maintains regular, clear, and concise communication within area of responsibility.
  • Maintains a safe environment through attention to detail. Ensures Y is attractive and clean by completing all duties listed on the daily schedule and maintains upkeep of assigned area and equipment.
  • May perform wet and dust mopping, dusting, trash removal, recycling, window washing, pool cleaning, painting, vacuuming, seasonal activities dealing with lawn care and snow removal, and general cleaning.
  • Operates related motorized and non-motorized equipment.
  • Assists with various maintenance related tasks as requested.
  • Records and reports all needed repairs; repairs as directed.
  • Ensures YMCA building and property is secure during shift and report incidents and hazardous conditions to supervisor.
  • Replaces soap, paper towels, and other supplies.
  • May set up furniture for events.
  • Be available to work nights and weekends to ensure shifts filled and staff on each shift are supported.
  • Responsible for stocking supplies as needed for maintaining facility readiness.
  • Models relationship-building skills in all interactions.
  • Develops and maintains collaborative relationships with community organizations.
  • Maintains regular, clear, and concise communication within area of responsibility.
  • Responsible for other duties as assigned by Supervisor.

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Six months or more of related experience preferred.
  • Minimum age required is 16 years old.
  • Ability to read and interpret instructions, procedures, manuals, and other documents.
  • Ability to report and record maintenance requests.
  • Knowledge of cleaning methods and equipment.
  • Basic understanding of the upkeep and care of equipment.
  • Understanding of cleaning compounds and chemicals, and their safe, efficient use.
  • Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
  • Ability to work independently, plan, and organize.
  • Must obtain certifications through the YMCA in American Red Cross First Aid and Administering Emergency Oxygen (or equivalent) within first 30 days of hire.
  • Multi-lingual desired but not required.
