Job description

Description
SCRIPPS COLLEGE
CLAREMONT, CALIFORNIA 91711
PART-TIME LECTURER IN DANCE
(African Diasporic Dance)
FALL 2026
Scripps College, a women's liberal arts college with a strong interdisciplinary tradition, is seeking to hire one Lecturer to teach one full-credit, studio-based practice course in the area of either West African or Afro-Contemporary Dance. In this course, historical, cultural, and aesthetic issues should augment the studio practice experience.
The appointments are subject to renewal. Courses are contingent upon enrollment and budget.
The preferred applicant will have an M.A., M.F.A. or Ph.D. in Dance or equivalent professional experience; two years of experience teaching dance from a critical perspective, ideally at the college level; professional performing experience or consistent social practice in African-Diasporic Dance; and the ability to direct written work integrated with the studio classes.
The salary for this position will range from $8,460 to $9,400 and will be based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to internal equity, experience, education, specialty, and training. In light of recent federal updates to visa processing and associated costs, the College is generally not in a position to sponsor visas for faculty appointments.
The Scripps Dance program has two full-time faculty and a few part-time instructors. It offers a B.A. degree with a major or minor in Dance. Application deadline is February 27, 2026.
Applicants should submit the following materials online:
1. Cover letter
2. CV
3. Syllabus or description of how they would approach the course
4. A link to videos of the applicant teaching and/or performing in the style
5. Two letters of reference, sent by the evaluators by email to:
Kevin Williamson, Chair of Search Committee
Email: kwilliam@scrippscollege.edu
