Voluntary Action Center of Northern Illinois is seeking dependable and compassionate part-time Vehicle Operators to join our team in Yorkville, IL. This position is ideal for individuals looking to work 20-29 hours per week and who have the flexibility to work part-time shifts scheduled within our operating hours of Monday through Friday, 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.


As a Vehicle Operator, you'll provide safe, reliable, and compassionate transportation to our clients through a variety of services including paratransit, flex-route, and park & ride routes. Your role helps individuals access daily essentials like medical appointments, grocery stores, and community resources while promoting dignity and independence.


Key Responsibilities

Safely operate agency vehicles under various road and weather conditions.

Assist passengers boarding, riding, and exiting vehicles.

Secure mobility devices and provide passenger assistance as needed.

Communicate with dispatch regarding routes and passenger movement.

Conduct pre- and post-trip vehicle inspections.

Maintain accurate logs (trips, mileage, fuel, fares, and hours).

Deliver excellent customer service while representing VAC's mission and values.

Working Conditions & Physical Demands

This is an active, hands-on transportation position and not simply a driving position. Vehicle Operators regularly enter and exit vehicles, assist passengers with varying mobility needs, operate wheelchair lifts/ramps, secure mobility devices, bend and reach to use securement equipment, work outdoors in changing weather conditions, and interact directly with older adults and individuals with disabilities throughout the workday. Operators must meet DOT medical standards and be able to lift, push, or pull equipment and mobility devices as needed.

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent.

Valid Illinois driver's license and a clean driving record.ย 

Ability to pass a DOT physical, background check, and drug screening.

Experience in transportation, public service, or similar field.

Public or community transportation experience and experience working with seniors or individuals with disabilities preferred.ย
