This is a part time student position which will include up to 40 hours of work across the semester. It could range from 1-8 hours/week. This job is a Level 2 Step 17 position which pays $15.57/hour.
Available courses change every semester. Academic year 26/27 may have availability in: Biology, Chemistry, History & Psychology.
Undergraduate Assistants (UAs) are KPC students who work hand-in-hand with faculty to enhance the educational environment and also develop their own professional skills.
Examples of how UAs accomplish this could include:
• Being embedded in a specific course to help fellow students succeed by working one-on-one with students or groups, holding exam study sessions, etc.
• Being embedded in a specific course to facilitate conversations, discussions, and in-class activities
• Providing support on a specific academic project being led by a faculty
UAs work closely with their Lead Faculty (the faculty member teaching the course the UA is assigned to) and attend onboarding and training. Available courses change every semester.
A successful candidate for this position is reliable, dependable, and committed, with the ability to consistently attend and actively participate in all scheduled shifts, meetings, and trainings. They communicate effectively and work collaboratively with students, peers, staff, and faculty. They demonstrate a growth mindset by being open to learning and both giving and receiving feedback. They are enthusiastic about supporting their peers by guiding their learning rather than simply providing answers, and they serve as a positive, encouraging, and supportive academic role model for students in the classroom.
As an Undergraduate Assistant, you will attend and participate in required orientation sessions, trainings, and weekly meetings with the Lead Faculty and other Undergraduate Assistants assigned to the same course. You will also perform other duties as assigned by the Lead Faculty that support your specific role in the course or project.
Some experience tutoring, coaching, teaching, mentoring or working well with others is preferred. Typically, a successful UA who will be embedded in a specific course has previously passed the course or taken similar courses to the one they are an UA for.
Minimum Qualifications:
Must be enrolled at UAA with a minimum of six (6) credit hours in the semester of employment.
Must have completed at least one semester at UAA/KPC.
Must be in good disciplinary standing with the university.
Must have a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher for this position.
Upon hire, completion of the following UAA Employee e-Learning Trainings is required: FERPA: Protecting Student Privacy and Title IX.
Additional training with the UA program at KPC will be required.
