Position Summary: The Fitness Specialist is responsible for planning, implementing, and monitoring all physical activities, classes and programs.ย  They must be able to establish a relationship with residents and families to ensure that a Personalized Fitness Plan can be set up to promote optimal physical, social, and emotional health and wellbeing.ย  They must be able to offer professional, high quality, senior wellness advice and instruction.ย  In addition, oversight of all Aquatic facilities programming, staffing and maintenance is included in communities where applicable.

Essential Functions:

  • Develop a wide range of classes to cover all areas of senior fitness
  • Plan weekly class schedule to offer a wide variety of classes daily
  • Teach classes safely and effectively
  • Track attendance of all classes to monitor popularity
  • Create appropriate music lists to help motivate and set the tone for each class
  • Schedule personal training sessions to work one-on-one with residents to address individual needs
  • Demonstrate the correct way to use all fitness equipment
  • Deliver talks and presentations about fitness related topics
  • Create, maintain and update all residentโ€™s Personalized Fitness Plans
  • Required to test pool water daily and work with the ESD to chemical adjustments as necessary
  • Maintain fitness equipment on a daily basis
  • Will provide preventive measures and exercise classes that address Fall Prevention
  • As a member of the Department Head team, attend Monthly All-Associate meetings
  • Attend Quarterly Regional Fitness Specialist meetings

Education/Experience/Licensure/Certification

  • Nationally Accredited Group Fitness or Personal Training Certification.
  • First Aid, AED, and CPR certification
  • Bachelorโ€™s degree from an accredited college or university; a degree in Exercise Science, Kinesiology, Recreation Management, or related field is preferred.
  • Certified Pool Operator (CPO) is preferred.
  • Experience with and a passion for working with seniors is preferred.
  • Basic typing skills and computer knowledge; familiarity with MS word, excel and outlook.
