Essential Job Duties
The Research Technician will support translational research within the field of comparative genetics, with a primary focus on feline and canine models. This role requires a blend of technical laboratory expertise and project management. The successful candidate will not only execute experiments but also understand the underlying scientific rationale, analyze data, and contribute to methodological development for multiple concurrent projects.

Key Responsibilities
1. Experimental Execution & Research Support
  • Perform complex molecular and cell biology techniques, including DNA/RNA extraction, PCR, Real-time PCR (qPCR), and protein analysis.
  • Conduct laboratory procedures to test specific research hypotheses under the guidance of the Principal Investigator.
  • Assist in the development and refinement of new experimental methodologies.
2. Project Management & Data Analysis
  • Manage the workflow of multiple concurrent research projects to ensure deadlines and objectives are met.
  • Analyze experimental data and collaborate with the research team to determine project next steps.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed records of all experimental protocols and results.
3. Diagnostic Services & Quality Control
  • Process diagnostic requests for the Cardiac Genetics Laboratory using PCR-based analysis.
  • Oversee rigorous quality control (QC) standards to ensure the accuracy and integrity of diagnostic results.
4. Laboratory Operations & Compliance
  • Manage general lab operations, including inventory procurement and stocking of supplies.
  • Update and maintain laboratory safety protocols and quality assurance (QA) plans to ensure compliance with institutional standards.

This is a time limited position with an expected duration of 1-2 years.
