What are part time textile design internships?

Part time textile design internships are temporary positions offered by companies or studios that allow interns to gain hands-on experience in textile design while working fewer hours than a full-time role. Interns typically assist with tasks like creating patterns, working with fabrics, collaborating on design projects, and learning about the textile production process. These internships are ideal for students or individuals seeking practical industry experience without committing to a full workweek, often complementing academic studies or other commitments.

What kinds of projects and tasks can I expect to work on during a part-time textile design internship?

As a part-time textile design intern, you’ll typically assist with creating design concepts, preparing mood boards, and developing print and pattern repeats. You may also help with fabric sampling, trend research, and supporting the design team in day-to-day administrative tasks. Interns often collaborate closely with designers and production teams, giving you practical exposure to the workflow of a professional textile studio. This hands-on experience helps build your portfolio and prepares you for potential full-time roles in the industry.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Part Time Textile Design Intern, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Part Time Textile Design Intern, you generally need a background in textile or fashion design, knowledge of color theory, and basic drawing or illustration skills, often supported by enrollment in a relevant degree program. Familiarity with design software such as Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, and textile-specific CAD tools is typically required. Creativity, attention to detail, time management, and openness to feedback are vital soft skills in this role. These skills are important to produce innovative textile designs, meet project deadlines, and adapt to the collaborative and fast-paced nature of the design industry.

Job description

At Idea Peddler, we see interns as the next wave of creative thinkers, and investing in them is an investment in the future of our industry. We give interns real-world experience, helping them grow through hands-on projects, mentorship, and collaboration. Their fresh ideas and perspectives challenge us to think differently, and in return, we offer the opportunity to build skills, confidence, and a network through hands-on client experience. We're not just teaching-we're shaping the future of creativity together.

Our Fall 2026 Internship Program will run from September 1st through December 18th and is 20 hours per week. The agency is remote on Monday and Fridays and in-office on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursdays and we'll need you in the office at least 80% of the time (16 hrs).

Our Creative Design Intern is a creative individual who is looking to develop their skills in graphic design and beyond. Someone that isn't just a pixel pusher but is interested in developing big ideas and seeing how to make brands come to life in different mediums. A person that isn't afraid to venture into new territories and explore every avenue of being a designer.

This internship is an opportunity to understand small agency life in a way where you have more control. The position will include internal and external projects where you can work on the Idea Peddler brand and real-world clients. Throughout the internship, you will work directly with the Creative Director of Design and work collaboratively with other members of the creative team.

Responsibilities:

  • Create and design print and digital materials
  • Adhere to brand guidelines and complete projects according to a deadline
  • Retouch and manipulate images
  • Use graphic design software and work with a wide variety of media
  • Collaborate with the Creative Director and Graphic Design Manager to develop design concepts
  • Receive feedback from the Creative Director and Graphic Design Manager and make necessary changes
  • Prepare pitch decks for a variety of clients

Our Ideal Candidate has/is:

  • Basic knowledge of layout, typography, hierarchy, color, and other graphic design fundamentals
  • Experience with After Effects, Adobe Photoshop, and Illustrator
  • Strong creative and analytical skills
  • Creative portfolio of graphic design work
  • Interest in other mediums, such as 3D, photography, etc., is a plus
  • Energetic and eager, and willing to tackle new challenges!

This internship is 20 hours per week and we'll need you in the office at least 80% of that time. The agency is remote on Monday and Fridays and in-office on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursdays. This is a great opportunity to gain professional experience, grow your network, and learn more about yourself and the industry. Lastly, the Account Management internship has potential to turn into a full-time position with Idea Peddler based on timing, needs, and performance.
