Position Overview

As an anchor, you will be an effective team member and make a full contribution to the success of the station. Contribute daily to make KTAR the leading provider oftimely, relevant news and information.As a reporter, you will be producing stories from the newsroom and at times from the field.Thison-callrole will require you to be available for varied schedules.It'sthe perfect "foot in the door" opportunity for an up-and-comer ora great jobfor someone who just wants to keep their news chops fresh.

Note: Work configurations are subject to change based on business needs and at company discretion.

  • This position is an onsite role that requires the employee to regularly work at our Phoenix site.

What You Will Do:

Primary job duties will include, but are not limited to:

  • Perform live in-studio reports within newscasts of up to four times an hour, withpossibly moreaddedin the event ofbreaking news
  • Present compelling, informative,personableand impactful newscasts with an emphasis on local and breaking news.
  • Report news in a way that is constantly fresh,newand exciting, unique and exciting ways whilemaintainingthe integrity of news standards.
  • When filling in as reporter, duties include performing live reports from the newsroom and at times on location, up to 2x an hour, or more often as dictated by breaking news.
  • During your shift, you maybe responsible forassignmentdesk operations,monitoringthe flow of information.
  • While at the desk, write scripts, reach out for interviews, conductinterviewsand update stories as needed.
  • During holidays,vacationsor breaking news, you may be asked to fill in atdifferent timesof day and/or weekends.
  • Maintain community contacts and develop specialtiestoenterprise news stories.
  • Be a self-starter and quick thinker while reporting in-house andon location. Placing an extreme emphasis on conversational writing and creative presentation during live and taped reports.
  • Consistentlycontributesoriginal story and long form report ideas.
  • Seek video interviews and edit clips for social media from recorded interviews.
  • Take on special assignments and in-depth pieces, longform reporting.

Skills and Experience We Are Looking For:

  • Bachelor's Degree in broadcast journalism orassociate's degree.
  • Minimum of one year of experience as an active reporter,anchoror editor in a professional news environment.
  • Strong broadcast writing, and computer skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure to meet up to the minute/hourly/daily/weekly deadlines and beaccurateand precise in writing news or traffic reports.
  • Self-starter who can work though everyday tasks with minimal direction
  • Ability to understand andutilizenews feeds and social media
  • Sound news judgement and ability to simplify press releases as well as government, and law enforcement information
  • Hold true to the utmost ethics in journalism and practice integrity in all areas, including professional and personal standards
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including conversational, yet professional news delivery.
  • Proficiencyin editing audio using software like Audition or NewsBoss Audio Editor
  • NewsBoss platform experience preferred. Basic video editing skillspreferred.
  • Strong desireto work at Arizona's largest and most respected award-winning news radio station.
  • Must possess valid driver's license and clean driving record.

Physical Demands

  • Receive, process, and maintain information through oral and/or written communication effectively.
  • Manual dexterity and fine motor skills to operate computer keys and general office equipment. Ability to work on a computer for prolonged periods of time.
  • Sit and/or stand for extended periods of time.

Compensation

$20.00 per hour. Hourly rate to be determined by multiple factors including but not limited to evaluation of the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant along with internal equity and alignment with market data.
