What is a part time technical writer?

A part time technical writer is a professional who creates instructional materials, manuals, guides, and documentation for products or services, but works fewer hours than a full-time employee. They often collaborate with engineers, developers, or subject matter experts to make complex information easier to understand. Part time roles can offer flexible schedules, making them suitable for students, freelancers, or those seeking a work-life balance. These writers may work remotely or on-site, depending on the employer's needs.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a part time technical writer?

To thrive as a Part Time Technical Writer, you need strong writing, editing, and research skills, typically supported by a degree in English, communications, or a technical field. Familiarity with documentation tools such as Microsoft Word, Adobe FrameMaker, or MadCap Flare, and experience with content management systems are often required. Attention to detail, time management, and the ability to convey complex information clearly are critical soft skills. These competencies ensure that documentation is accurate, accessible, and delivered efficiently to meet organizational and user needs.

How does a part time technical writer typically collaborate with subject matter experts and full-time team members?

Part-time technical writers often work closely with subject matter experts (SMEs) and full-time staff through scheduled meetings, email communication, and collaborative tools like shared documents or project management systems. Since their hours may be limited, clear communication and efficient organization are essential to stay aligned with project goals and deadlines. Many teams use regular check-ins or status updates to ensure everyone is on the same page. Being proactive in seeking clarifications and feedback helps part-time writers contribute effectively despite less time on-site or in meetings.

Job description

Description:

Join the team shaping the future of healthcare! Medbridge is a dynamic software-as-a-service company working with the country’s largest healthcare providers to build technology solutions that help patients get better faster while decreasing the overall cost of care. Our Marketing team is growing, and we’re looking for a part-time AI Content Specialist to join us.

We hire in the following states: AZ, CO, FL, ID, GA, IL, NH, KS, MA, MI, MN, MO, NC, NY, OH, OR, PA, SC, TN, TX, UT, VA, WA, WI.

We’re looking for an AI Content Specialist to help us create high-quality, clinician-facing content at scale. This is primarily a content creation and editorial role, not a traditional SEO role.

You’ll use AI tools to accelerate the content development process, from research and outlining through drafting and editing, while applying strong human editorial judgment to ensure every piece is accurate, original, useful, on-brand, and clinically sound. The ideal candidate is a strong writer and editor who knows how to use AI effectively, can translate complex clinical or technical concepts into accessible content, and thrives in a high-volume environment where speed and quality both matter.

Why work at Medbridge?

  • We are mission-driven. Our mission is clear—we want to help everyone move well, feel well, and live well.
  • You’ll make an impact here. 300,000+ clinicians use our products daily, impacting millions of patients. The content you create helps them stay informed and deliver better care.
  • Our customers love Medbridge! We work with 9 of the top 10 private practice and hospital systems nationwide, and 6 of the top 10 home health organizations.

In this role, you will:

  • Create and edit clinician-facing content at scale, including blog articles, guides, assessments, checklists, downloadable PDFs, and other educational assets, using course transcripts, SME interviews, existing content, and external contributions as source material. Using AI-assisted workflows, you’ll efficiently move from research and outlining to strong first drafts and polished final content.
  • Apply strong editorial judgment to AI-assisted and externally contributed content, reviewing and refining for accuracy, originality, clarity, structure, voice, citations, clinical appropriateness, and usefulness. You’ll collaborate with instructors, clinicians, SMEs, and contributors to incorporate feedback and maintain a high editorial and clinical quality bar.
  • Translate complex clinical and technical concepts into accurate, accessible content for professional audiences without oversimplifying, and create and edit content across formats, including webinar and podcast campaigns, registration and landing pages, pre- and post-event emails, scripts, and social copy.
  • Own planning and writing for discipline-specific clinical newsletters across PT, OT, SLP, AT, and RN audiences, selecting and developing featured content and aligning messaging with product launches, campaigns, and strategic priorities.
  • Use AI to increase content velocity and build scalable workflows, including effective prompting, AI-assisted drafting and editing, fact-checking, quality control, prompt libraries, and documented, repeatable processes that produce consistent, accurate, original, and on-brand content.
  • Apply working SEO knowledge to optimize and maintain content, including keyword integration, search intent, metadata, headers, internal linking, FAQs, alt text, content refreshes, and opportunities to improve content performance and usefulness. You’ll also collaborate with SEO and other cross-functional partners as needed.

What you will need to succeed:

  • 1–2 years of experience in content writing, editing, content marketing, or a related field, ideally in healthcare, healthtech, or another technical or regulated environment. Demonstrated writing ability and relevant portfolio work can be considered alongside professional experience.
  • Strong writing and editorial skills, with the ability to create clear, engaging, well-structured content for professional audiences and critically review content for accuracy, originality, clarity, tone, citations, and overall quality.
  • Hands-on experience using AI tools for content development, including prompting, AI-assisted research and drafting, editing, fact-checking, quality control, and improving content production efficiency. Experience with platforms such as Claude, ChatGPT/custom GPTs, or similar tools is strongly preferred.
  • Ability to translate clinical or technical concepts into accessible content without losing important nuance, with strong attention to detail and the judgment to identify when AI-generated information requires additional validation or expert input.
  • Ability to work with speed and organization in a high-volume content environment, managing multiple projects, deadlines, source materials, and stakeholder feedback while maintaining consistency and quality. Comfortable collaborating with SMEs, clinicians, instructors, SEO, product, and other cross-functional partners.
  • Working familiarity with SEO fundamentals, including keyword research, search intent, metadata, headers, internal linking, FAQs, alt text, content refreshes, and basic content optimization, along with familiarity with content management systems, email/newsletter platforms, or analytics tools.

Nice to Have

  • Experience writing for healthcare, clinical, technical, or other professional audiences, particularly PT, OT, SLP, AT, or nursing.
  • Experience working in a high-volume content environment with multiple content formats, campaigns, or audiences.
  • Experience with email and newsletter platforms, content campaigns, and cross-channel content coordination.
  • Familiarity with content management systems and analytics tools, with an understanding of how content performance can inform optimization.
  • Experience collaborating with subject matter experts or clinicians to develop, validate, and refine content.

Our Values:

Excellence: A job worth doing is a job worth doing RIGHT.

  • We believe that excellence is never an accident. It’s the result of high intention, sincere effort, and intelligent execution.
  • We are change-makers who push the boundaries of what is possible, continually reimagining patient care.
  • We realize that our work impacts people’s health and demands that we hold ourselves to the highest possible standards.
  • We know a good thing when we see it; when exceptional talent comes our way, we hire them and help them grow.
  • We understand the value of time, and we give our best effort every day because we have a day in which to give it.

Fortitude: Our goals are big. Our dedication is bigger.

  • We embrace ambitious and challenging projects with confidence in our ability to achieve them together.
  • We are courageous as we venture into the unknown.
  • We persevere in the face of difficulties.
  • We do not let perfection be the enemy of progress; we focus on taking the next best step forward.
  • We take ownership of our mistakes and of our successes, and we learn from both.

Service: We work for something more important than ourselves.

  • We care deeply about our colleagues, customers, and patients, ensuring our work at Medbridge has a lasting impact.
  • We take a multi-disciplinary, data-oriented approach to solving problems.
  • We lead with confidence and humility, embracing a servant-leadership mindset as we support and challenge one another to reach our shared goals.
  • We know that if we do great work, we help people live healthier lives.
