Job description

Position Summary:
Support lead teachers in delivering a safe, nurturing, and developmentally appropriate program for children ages Infant – After School. As an assistant/floater you will help implement daily curriculum, supervise classroom activities and transitions, maintain a clean environment, and provide individualized attention to children as needed across classrooms.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Assist lead teacher with lesson planning and implementing age-appropriate activities that promote social, emotional, cognitive, and physical development.
  • Supervise children during classroom activities, outdoor play, meals, rest time, and transitions.
  • Act as a floater: cover classrooms, breaks, or other classrooms as needed while maintaining program consistency and classroom routines.
  • Support positive behavior guidance; use redirection and classroom strategies to promote cooperative behavior.
  • Observe and document children’s progress; report developmental concerns to lead teacher and director.
  • Prepare and tidy learning spaces, materials, and supplies; sanitize toys and surfaces according to health/safety guidelines.
  • Assist with arrival/dismissal procedures and maintain accurate attendance records.
  • Communicate professionally and compassionately with families; share routine updates and observations.
  • Participate in staff meetings, training, and mandated professional development; follow center policies and licensing regulations.
  • Respond appropriately to emergencies and administer basic first aid when necessary.
Qualifications:
Required:
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum of EITHER (a) CDA credential or equivalent early childhood coursework OR (b) documented experience working with preschool-age children (typically 6+ months).
  • Current pediatric CPR and First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain).
  • Ability to pass background check and meet state licensing requirements.
  • Reliable transportation
Preferred not Required:
  • Associate’s degree or coursework in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, or related field.
  • Experience in multi-age preschool classrooms and working as a floater.
  • Knowledge of developmentally appropriate practices, positive guidance techniques, and basic child observation/assessment.
  • EDU 119 and/or Qualifying Letter

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with children, families, and colleagues.
  • Patience, flexibility, and ability to adapt quickly to changing classroom needs.
  • Reliable time management, organizational skills, and attention to safety.

  • Full- or part-time schedules; may include early mornings and late afternoons depending on center hours.
  • Frequent bending, lifting (up to ~40 lbs), sitting on floor, and outdoor supervision in various weather conditions.
