Then, a Retail Fish Cutter Summer Internship at Lobster Place Seafood Market could be a great opportunity for you! This is an 8 to12-week, part-time summer internship with the potential opportunity for hire after successful completion of the internship.

About You
  • You are interested in learning the fundamentals of fish cutting, seafood preparation, and seafood market counter service.

Responsibilities
  • Take and prepare customer orders, including cleaning, portioning, and packaging seafood product.
  • Assist Fish Cutters with daily seafood preparation and learn proper cutting, cleaning, and portioning techniques under supervision.
  • Deliver excellent customer service to guests at the seafood market counter.
  • Merchandise, stock, rotate, and organize seafood products and packaging supplies as needed.
  • Develop in-depth knowledge of seafood products in the section.
  • Support AM setup and PM breakdown of the seafood counter and fish cutting areas.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and sanitary workstation.
  • Read tickets and prepare customer orders accurately.
  • Learn and retain product knowledge and fish cutting techniques from experienced Fish Cutters and market leadership.
  • Follow food safety, sanitation, and NYC health department standards.
  • Communicate and collaborate effectively with co-workers and managers.
  • Follow work schedule and arrive prepared for each shift.

Qualifications
  • Previous experience in customer service, food preparation, culinary training, or working with seafood preferred.
  • Strong basic knife skills required.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively in English.
  • Able to work in a fast-paced environment, learn quickly, and show initiative.
  • Good time management and communication skills.
  • Willing to learn from and take direction from experienced Fish Cutters.
  • Understanding of NYC health department codes preferred.
  • Must be willing to work nights, weekends, and holidays as needed.

Working Conditions & Essential Functions
This job operates in a professional restaurant environment. This role routinely requires the use of computers and other electronic devices. The host station is small, and traffic is high. The workspace is on 2 levels and the ability to use stairs is required. This is an FLSA non-exempt hourly position on the restaurant floor.
  • Prolonged periods of standing, walking, kneeling, bending and movement throughout the space.
  • Expression/exchange of ideas both verbally and through non-verbal means.
  • Must be able to obtain impressions through the eyes.
