Job description

POSITION DETAILS
Part-time with benefits; Monday through Friday day shift; Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) certification on hire or within one year of hire required.
JOB SUMMARY
The Sterile Processing Technician performs cleaning, decontamination, packaging, sterilization, storage and delivery of sterile instruments and trays. The Sterile Processing Technician will support all patient care services and is responsible for knowing all the instruments used in the operating room, clinic, and hospital departments. The Sterile Processing Technician will also perform appropriate documentation for the sterile processing processes.
MAJOR JOB FUNCTION
  1. Perform instrument decontamination, processing, & sterilization according to manufacturer's instructions for use.
  2. Accurately assemble instrument sets/pans to ensure they are complete.
  3. Keep track of loaner instruments/implant trials and reprocess them before and after the case they are intended for.
  4. Maintain knowledge of current instructions for use (IFU) for proper care and use of instruments.
  5. Communicate throughout the facility to ensure all departments have the instruments needed to perform their job duties.
  6. Accurately assemble case carts for upcoming cases.
  7. Maintain sterilizer load records.
  8. Perform decontamination and reprocessing of flexible endoscopes per manufacturer's IFU.
  9. Willingly accepts delegated tasks and projects from the Nursing Coordinator or Surgical Services Director.

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
  1. High school diploma or equivalent required
  2. Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) certification within one year of hire required.

JOB REQUIREMENTS
  1. Frequently required to stand, walk and reach with hands and arms. Required to sit, climb or balance, stoop, kneel or crouch.
  2. Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  3. Ability to respond appropriately to changing staffing conditions. Demonstrated ability to make independent judgments in times of need along with the ability to seek guidance and/or support from appropriate resources.
  4. Full range of body motion and flexibility is required daily.
  5. Good hearing is necessary to receive detailed information through oral communication and to verify visual and audio alarms on machines.

WORKING CONDITIONS
Must understand and accept the possibility of exposure to inside environmental conditions, such as infectious/communicable diseases, noise, blood and bloodborne diseases, chemicals and/or chemical fumes, odors, gases, and dusts. Must be able to function effectively under stressful situations. Environment is climate controlled.
