Do you enjoy helping kids ask big questions, try new ideas, and discover how fun learning can be? Join the La Crosse Area Family YMCA as a STEM Coach and bring science, technology, engineering, and math to life for youth through hands-on activities, creative problem-solving, and encouraging mentorship. This part-time role is a great fit for someone who enjoys working with young people, building confidence, and making learning feel exciting, welcoming, and accessible.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Lead engaging STEM activities that encourage curiosity, creativity, teamwork, and problem-solving.
  • Create a fun, inclusive, and learning environment where every participant feels welcome and supported.
  • Help youth build confidence as they explore science, technology, engineering, math, and real-world applications.
  • Prepare materials, set up activities, and keep program spaces organized, clean, and ready for learning.

This is a part-time role supporting YMCA youth STEM programming in La Crosse and Onalaska. Schedule may vary based on program needs, school-year programming, special events, and seasonal opportunities.

Requirements
  • Interest in STEM education, youth development, hands-on learning, or related programming.
  • Experience working with youth in a school, camp, childcare, after-school, recreation, mentoring, or similar setting preferred.
  • Ability to lead activities, give clear instructions, and adapt lessons for different ages, abilities, and learning styles.
  • Positive, patient, dependable, and encouraging approach with youth and families.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work as part of a supportive team.
  • Ability to respond to common questions or concerns from participants, members, staff, administration, and the general public.
