Job Title: DCMusic Program Educator - Part Time (Music Production and Songwriting)
JOB SUMMARY
Living Classrooms' Ascend through Music Program in theNational Capitol Region serves youth throughout Washington, DC. AMP providesopportunities to learn skills in music technology, musical instruments,creating original music, recording and performance with the purpose ofdeveloping self-expression and positive character/life skills.
Under the direction of the Director of Music Programs andworking with the DC Music Coordinator, the music educator will support inbuilding the Ascend through Music Program. The music educator will develop andteach programming that encompasses musical development, self-expression andpositive character skills. Programming involves working with children, youthand adults and integrating music technology, songwriting, performances, andcreating original music/videos.
ESSENTIALFUNCTIONS - DC MUSIC PROGRAM EDUCATOR
โข 3-6hours a week, likely 1-2 days per week in 10 week terms
โข Build music technologyskills and concepts including beatmaking, songwriting, recording andmixing
โข Run recording sessions for programsand program participants
โข Edit, Mix and finalize programprojects and recordings
โข Set-up and maintain equipment foroptimal programming use
โข Work independently
โข Travel to programsites, including setting up and breaking down equipment and materials as needed
โข Communicate andcoordinate with DC Music Program Coordinator and site staff
ESSENTIALFUNCTIONS FOR ALL MUSIC EDUCATORS
โข Create and facilitate sequential andengaging lessons, activities and experiences that develop skills, knowledge,creativity and confidence in music
โข Plan and guide students in preparingfinal projects and/or performances
โข Incorporate effective classroommanagement to maintain a structured, positive learning space
โข Collaborate and Assist Director andteam with program-wide performances, recordings, and projects
โข Interact professionally andappropriately with students, parents, teachers, staff, community
โข Participate in site staff meetingsand on-going training opportunities
โข Capture, create and upload contenton program's social media platforms
โข Comply with all LCF/AMP policies andprocedures
JOBQUALIFICATIONS
โข Mastery of industry-standard DAWs (LogicPro X preferred) and equipment to create instrumentals, projects, andrecordings
โข Knowledge in songwriting skills andtechniques
โข Experience with recording equipment,running a recording session, and mixing
โข 2 years of experience working with agroup of youth in a structured setting
โข Understanding of basic music theory asrelates to foundational skills in making/creating music
โข Strong communication, timemanagement, and multi-tasking skills
โข Reliable transportation with abilityto transport program equipment
โข Ability to work in a changingenvironment and address the varying needs of students
โข Comfortable working with studentsages 10-17
โข Preferred: Bachelor'sDegree
WORK ENVIRONMENT
The dress code isbusiness casual. Living Classrooms will provide each staff person with a staffshirt. Staff shirts should be worn with slacks/skirts or appropriate jeans(e.g. no holes, no writing, too revealing, etc.).
