LBYD was founded in 1973 with the incorporation of E. Glenn Bishop & Associates. In 1978, with the merger of the structural engineering firm Lane & Hodnett Structural Engineers, the firm became Lane/Bishop/Hodnett, Inc. In 1987, the firm became LaneBishopYorkDelahay Inc., which is known today as LBYD Engineers. In 2001, LBYD began offering civil engineering services. POSITION PURPOSE:

The Project Engineer position requires increasing responsibility as an engineer. In addition to responsibilities assigned to the Design Engineer, the Project Engineer is expected to assemble individual task assignments into complete plan sets and reports. This position is expected to assign tasks to a new Design Engineer, and exhibit the ability to mentor, train, teach and check a Design Engineers work.
Primary assignments for this position will be performed under the supervision of a Professional Engineer and will be project assignments, instead of individual tasks when applicable.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Performs all duties of Design Engineer
  • Prepares reports outlining opinions, and recommendations for the approval of a Project Manager concerning the production of the project
  • Research project requirements including federal, state, and local codes and ordinances
  • Proficient in Civil3d for site design including roadways, lotting, grading, drainage and utility design
  • Prepares design plan sets for construction, implementing design objectives set forth by the Project Manager
  • Collaborates with other consultants for project coordination
  • Coordinates plan submittals and approvals with jurisdictional authorities
  • May act as technical advisor to design engineers assigned to the project, as determined by the Project Manager
  • May be assigned to manage small projects
  • Confers with management on all major project decisions such as client contact, design, construction cost, and schedule
  • Resolve day-to-day problems, mostly of a technical nature
  • May be asked to travel to out of town assignments
  • Work alongside functional departments to fulfill corporate needs.

ADDITIONAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Represents LBYD at Public Hearings
  • Assist with client coordination

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering
  • Minimum of 2 years of design related experience

Skills and Abilities:

  • Proven success within the Design Engineer role
  • Demonstrated proficiency with LBYD's design software
  • Shown ability and aptitude to complete tasks working with multiple managers
  • Understands the tasks required to complete the production of a plan set
  • Ability to produce and assemble a complete set of drawings that follow LBYD and industry drawing standards resulting in a complete and coherent plan set
  • Thorough understanding of the project process and has working knowledge of most aspects of LBYD's civil engineering design
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate with internal design teams and external stakeholders


PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Exerts up to 10 lbs. of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body, involves sitting most of the time, but may involve walking or standing for brief periods of time.
WORKING ENVIRONMENT:

Work generally conducted indoors in an office setting with occasional travel to project sites, but may serve as a Field Engineer during construction.
