Job description

The School of Nursing and Health Sciences at Vermont State University, Sports Management Program, invites applications for a part-time faculty member/instructor position on our Castleton campus during the Fall 2025 semester (August 25, 2025 - December 19, 2025).

The course to be taught is Sports Management; SMT 2010-S01: Principles and Practices of Officiating

The course will be taught in-person with the option of a hybrid format using Canvas. Vermont State University fosters the intellectual, creative, and personal growth of every student in a community committed to diversity and inclusion. We provide innovative professional and liberal arts educational experiences that prepare students to be critical thinkers and engaged global citizens.ย 

This course will present an introduction to the principles and practices of officiating. Beyond knowing the rules and mechanics, the importance of skills such as communication, decision making, and conflict management, as well as topics such as personal fitness, injury prevention, legal rights and responsibilities, and career development will be studied. Students will examine how to begin in the industry.

VTSU uses Canvas and provides a generic course template for all courses. The instructor is responsible for adding course outcomes, course-appropriate academic materials, and discussion and assignment details that support the course description.ย 

Minimum Qualifications:ย 

Qualified candidates must possess a Bachelor's degree.ย  Significant field experience amounting to no less than 15 years as a practicing and certified official. ย Field experiences amounting to no less than five years in interscholastic or intercollegiate coaching.
