OVERVIEW
Delivers critical supports to individuals who are Deaf, Deaf-Blind, or Hard-of-Hearing promoting their access to and independence within the community. Responsibilities include relaying visual and environmental information, offering travel assistance, and ensuring safe community access through human guide support and transportation. The position also involves case management for low-income individuals and families, including client intake, assessment, advocacy, referrals, and maintaining accurate documentation. Ensures all services align with program goals and contractual requirements. Position may from time to time be stressful and require a high demand of performance. May perform other duties as assigned.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Support individuals who are Deaf, DeafBlind, or Hard-of-Hearing to promote community access and independence
  • Relay visual and environmental information that may otherwise be inaccessible
  • Provide travel assistance, needs assessments, advocacy, and referrals while managing case documentation
  • Ensure program services comply with established goals and contractual requirements
  • May drive agency, agency-rented, and/or personal vehicle on company business

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Suitable work experience may be considered as transferable skills in order to meet minimum requirements of the position and will be considered by the Executive Director of Human Resources.
  • Associate Degree or post-secondary education; or High School Diploma or GED with 1 year iof directly-related experience
  • American Sign Language (ASL) fluency and successful completion of Sign Language Proficiency Interview (SLPI:ASL)
  • Basic computer and typing skills
  • Proven strong communication skills - oral and written communications are clear and concise using appropriate style, grammar, and tone

REGULATORY
  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Valid driver license, proof of insurance, and 39-month motor vehicle report
  • Ability to obtain and maintain Arizona Level One Fingerprint Clearance Card and FBI National Criminal Records History Report (employer paid)
  • Pass pre-employment drug screen (incudes marijuana, regardless of recreational use laws) (employer paid)

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor Degree in social service or related field
  • Prior experience in providing services and support to individuals that are Deaf, Deaf-Blind, or Hard-of-Hearing
  • Familiar with the use of assistive technology (AT), assistive listening and/or other technologies to support individuals who are Deaf, Deaf-Blind, Hard-of-Hearing, Blind, or Low Vision
  • Knowledge of uncontracted or contracted Braille
  • Ability to use the communication systems preferred by individuals who are Deaf-Blind (e.g., ASL, Signed English, Spoken English, Protactile ASL, Tactile, writing, large print, and/or Braille)

PHYSICAL QUALIFICATIONS
  • Ability to lift 35 pounds up to 15% of the time
