Job description

Overview: The Grant Writer is an in-person, part-time position, responsible for a breadth of grant-related activities including foundation research, managing and developing grant submission timelines, drafting and submitting proposals, and writing grant reports. This position will work closely with program staff to secure information related to the development and submission of grants, and monitoring and reporting on program activities related to grant proposals funded by foundations, corporations and additional funding sources. The Grant Writer will also work closely with the Finance Department to develop grant budgets. Under the supervision of the Chief Advancement Officer, the Grant Writer will increase the capacity of the York JCC to secure grant funding from private, corporate and government funders.
General Responsibilities:
  • Conduct prospect research, identify strong funding prospects, and present for review by the Chief Advancement Officer
  • Work in close partnership with the Chief Advancement Officer to establish and maintain relationships with foundations and corporate contacts, conducting perspective funding research, and maintaining a calendar of submissions and deadlines
  • Maintain a database of funders and prospects, including but not limited to reporting, recognition and analysi
  • Communicate with program staff to understand funding needs and to communicate all programs in a compelling way to funders - both verbally and in writing
  • Generate compelling letters of inquiry and proposals for grant submission, as well as interim and final reports
  • Assemble all supporting documentation related to grant submissions
  • Coordinate with the Finance Department in the development of grant budgets
  • Compile information from program staff and draft grant reports for funders
  • Coordinate with the Marketing Manager to ensure proper acknowledgement of funders
  • Maintain communications with funders and program staff throughout the grant term for program updates
  • Track grant and reporting deadlines; maintain accurate records, and submit grant reports, with information from the programming and development staff, by or before deadlines
  • Execute special projects as needed which may include research-based, database or clerical functions

Requirements

  • Understand/possess an openness to Jewish religion and traditions
  • Attend all meetings and events that support the department's main objectives and responsibilities
  • Positively and actively promote the JCC's mission, membership, programs, events, and charitable purpose to JCC members and the general public
  • Be familiar with the mission, vision statements, and Core Values of the JCC. Model the Core Values while working and communicating with members and staff

Skills and Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Communications, English, Non-Profit Management or related degree and/or related job experience preferred
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in research and grant writing; nonprofit experience a plus
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Strong time management skills
  • Ability to multi-task and work independently
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Google Suite
  • Experience with a grants tracking database a plus
