JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS

The Office of Science Outreach in the Eberly College of Science is seeking enthusiastic applicants for Curriculum Mentor positions for the Science-U summer science camp program. Successful candidates will engage and educate K-12 youth through high-energy, hands-on science experiences at the University Park, PA campus. Applicants must possess or be willing to learn the skills needed to fulfill all job duties related to the Curriculum Mentor position, which include:

  • Help facilitating authentic STEM experiences for campers

  • Managing and promoting safety at camp

  • Helping bridge the gap between some of Penn State's top scientists and campers

  • Performing other duties as assigned

Requirements:

  • Enthusiasm for working with K-12 students and sharing science with others

  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational, verbal and written communication skills

  • Ability to multi-task and learn on the job

  • Proactive self-starter with a willingness to adapt to changing position requirements

  • Reliability and ability to follow a schedule, which is communicated in advance

  • Successful completion of Science-U training

Note: In the Office of Science Outreach, we understand that students are more than their transcripts and resumes. Students of all academic majors and backgrounds are encouraged to apply. As we provide all necessary job training before the start of Science-U Camps, no prior experience in childcare or science education is required.

Benefits: A typical work week for most camps is 40 hours, with an hourly wage starting at $12.70 per hour. Lunch and professional development opportunities are also included.
