TITLE: School Counselor - Part-Time (2026-27 School Year)
This position serves Phoenix Academy HS and the SPIRE After-School Program
QUALIFICATIONS: NC Educator's Licensure in School Counseling.
SALARY: NC Teacher Salary + 18% supplement
SUPERVISES: May coordinate and direct activities of paraprofessionals, volunteers and/or clerical assistants.
REPORTS TO: The school principal or his/her designee
JOB GOAL: To help all students develop skills in the areas of personal-social growth, educational planning, and career and vocational development
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
  1. Assumes primary responsibility for development, organization and implementation of the school counseling program.
  2. Develops activities and resources to implement and evaluate the program. Involves other school staff in making decisions about the school counseling program.
  3. Provides individual and group counseling services to meet the developmental, preventive, and remedial needs of students.
  4. Consults with students, parents, teachers, and other school and community personnel to assist in meeting the needs of students.
  5. Coordinates all counseling services for students and assists with the coordination and implementation of students services in the school. Assists teachers with the Guidance Curriculum.
  6. Accurately interprets test results and other student data. Assists teachers with the educational placement of students by using appropriate educational assessment strategies.
  7. Helps the school administration identify and remedy school policies and programs that inhibit student and staff development.
  8. Helps the school administration develop policies and programs that benefit student and staff development.
  9. Reports to the school administration and staff about the annual goals and services of the counseling program.
  10. Adheres to ethical standards of counseling profession, and abides by the laws, policies, and procedures that govern the schools.
  11. Participates in professional associations and upgrades professional knowledge and skills as needed.
  12. Serves as a member of the school-based committee as appropriate
  13. Performs other duties as assigned.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 10-month year. Prorated salary in accordance with certification and placement on the adopted schedule. Requires alternate work schedule to accommodate SPIRE After-School Program hours.
EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with the Board of Education policy on the evaluation of certified staff.
