Part-Time SAT Verbal Tutor (Digital SAT)

Teacher Tutors is looking for expert SAT Verbal Tutors to help students excel on the Reading and Writing sections of the new digital SAT. This role focuses on delivering personalized, one-on-one tutoring sessions that address each student’s specific challenges with vocabulary, grammar, evidence-based reading, and rhetorical analysis.

As the SAT transitions to a digital format, familiarity with the Bluebook testing app and the adaptive nature of the test is essential. Tutors will guide students through strategies tailored to the digital environment, including pacing, module difficulties, and effective use of the digital interface.

Tutoring sessions can be conducted in students’ homes, online across New Jersey, or at our Livingston office. We accommodate your preferred travel radius for in-person sessions.

Requirements

  • Proven expertise with the digital SAT Verbal sections, including the Reading and Writing modules, Bluebook app proficiency, and the adaptive question framework.
  • Strong content knowledge in English language conventions, grammar, vocabulary, rhetorical skills, and evidence-based reading comprehension.
  • Demonstrated student score improvements on SAT verbal sections; experience sharing concrete examples during the interview.
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in English, education, linguistics, or related fields; teaching certification is a plus.
  • Excellent communication skills to engage and motivate high school students and communicate progress and strategies clearly to parents.
  • Availability for after-school, evening, and weekend tutoring hours, especially in peak test prep seasons (spring and fall).
  • Comfortable with educational technology such as Zoom or Google Meet, digital materials sharing, and progress tracking tools.
  • Reliable transportation for in-home sessions within your preferred travel radius.
Nice to Have
  • Experience teaching high school English, SAT prep, or test-taking strategies.
  • Familiarity with PSAT/NMSQT preparation and National Merit qualifying strategies.
  • Ability to tutor small groups in a classroom or cohort setting.
  • Bilingual language skills (Spanish, Mandarin, or other languages common to our communities).

Benefits

Compensation & employment status
  • Pay range: $40-50/hour. Reflecting the specialized content knowledge and score-impact accountability the role requires.
  • W-2 (default): Most part-time tutors join as W-2 employees. Teacher Tutors handles payroll, taxes, and carries professional liability insurance covering W-2 tutors during scheduled sessions.
  • 1099 (optional): Tutors who prefer 1099 contractor status are welcome, provided they carry their own professional liability insurance and operate through a registered LLC. Documentation will be requested during onboarding.
