Job description

Duties: Under the supervision of the Park Manager, the Seasonal Park Maintenance Staff is responsible for the following:
  • Performing all duties assigned for the maintenance of the park property. This includes various different operations, such as:
    • Mowing with push mower or riding mower
    • Trimming with power weed trimmers or manually
    • Emptying garbage barrels and picking up litter
    • Cleaning and maintaining public restrooms
    • Flower beds - planting, weeding, watering
    • Athletic field maintenance and preparation for games
    • Picnic shelter preparations and clean up after picnics
    • Set up and take down for special events
    • And maintenance of all equipment.
  • Reporting any vandalism, unusual condition, emergency situation, or incident to the Park Manager immediately.
  • Following all safety procedures that pertain to the duties performed. Supporting all aspects of the Park District's safety program.
  • Performing other related duties as assigned.

Essential Functions:
  • Ability to reach, walk, pull, kneel, squat, and bend at the waist and knees.
  • Ability to operate machinery relative to job duties.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.

Education: High school diploma or equivalent required.
Experience: Must be 18 years of age or older.
Knowledge and Ability:
  • Ability to follow written and oral instructions.
  • Aptitude for on-the-job training.
  • Requires a valid Illinois State Driver's License.
  • Ability to work well with Park District personnel.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule including weekends, evenings, and special events.
  • Ability to deal effectively and courteously with the public.
  • Ability to be professional, respectful, accountable, innovative, to follow safety procedures, and be equitable to both internal and external customers.
  • Personal: Work record that shows reliability, integrity, initiative, and resourcefulness.
