JOB DESCRIPTION:

SUMMARY OF POSITION

Provides nursing care to clients in crisis in the Walk-In Center and Crisis Stabilization Unit. Provides medication monitoring, adjusts medications within limits prescribed by authorized prescriber. Provides information, education, and support to individuals in crisis that promote wellness and recovery.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Performs nursing assessments on individuals being admitted to the WIC/CSU.
  • Monitors vitals, performs lab testing, and evaluates medical appropriateness for admission and continued stay. Obtain and enters orders into EMR from authorized prescriber.
  • Administers and gives medications to patients, monitors the dosage, side effects, use and documents patients' reactions.
  • Provides medication training to the guest or guest's family/guardian to administer the guest's medication, to monitor proper levels of dosage and watch for side effects.
  • Develops and maintains the Treatment Plan of Care for guests.
  • Oversees the administering of nursing needs of guests.
  • Performs as a liaison role between guest and the authorized prescriber, pharmacist, family, and/or collateral support systems.
  • Coordinates guest- staff assignment of care and provides shift change report.
  • Observes guests on a day-to-day basis and provides documentation in the EMR.
  • Provides group or individual education as needed.
  • Participates and/or leads staff meetings and training as scheduled or necessary.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

  • Effectively communicate via written, verbal, in person and virtual methods.
  • Performs basic electronic medical record computer skills.
  • Detail oriented with effective problem solving skills
  • Possesses leadership skills
  • Knowledge base in psychotropic medications.
  • Skill in crisis intervention.
  • Ability to de-escalate patient/clients using evidence based de-escalation training (e.g. Theapeutic Options) to include safety holds as necessary.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education Level

Minimum of Associates Nursing Degree from an accredited school or a Waiver approved LPN by State of TN. RN Preferred.

Years of Experience

One year of behavioral health nursing experience preferred

Certification/Licensure

Licensure required. Valid driver's license required.
