Job description

Description:

We are seeking a thoughtful and detail-oriented Research & Evaluation Intern to support survey design, data collection, and analysis across several key projects, including monthly surveys, pilot initiatives, and the annual Engagement Grant process. This role is ideal for a student who enjoys working with data, research, and reporting, and who is curious about how insights can inform program decisions and community impact. The intern will also have the opportunity to conduct an independent research project comparing data from international Jewish communities, contributing meaningful analysis that supports our broader mission and strategic learning.


This is a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in research and evaluation within a mission-driven nonprofit, where data is used to strengthen programs and better serve communities. The position is part-time (20–25 hours per week) and pays $20 per hour.


Responsibilities

• Support survey design, data collection, and reporting for Monthly Book Surveys.

• Support survey distribution, data collection, and analysis/reporting for the Monthly New Subscriber Survey.

• Support survey design, data collection, and reporting for the July Music Pilot Survey.

• Support data analysis and reporting for annual Engagement Grant process.

• Support ad hoc data collection and analysis requests.

• Conduct independent research project cataloging comparison data for international Jewish communities:

o Create an index of data sources about international Jewish communities where we’ve conducted Triennial surveys (UK, Australia, New Zealand, Brazil, Germany/Austria/Switzerland)

o Draft report comparing external data points to PJ Library Triennial data points

• Collect expertise from the field on the issue of survey fatigue and strategies to improve response rates and sample sizes (if there is additional bandwidth).

• Assist with additional research requests as needed.


Requirements:
  • Currently enrolled in a college or university and possess a high school diploma or GED.
  • Comfort working with quantitative data, particularly in Excel (strongly preferred).
  • Experience with surveys or research projects (academic or professional).
  • Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines in a structured environment.
  • Ability to work independently on research tasks while also collaborating with a team.
  • Comfort working with data and maintaining accuracy in analysis and reporting.
  • Strong interest in research, data analysis, evaluation, or nonprofit work.
  • Interest in Jewish communities, nonprofit research, or mission-driven work is a plus.
