Job Description
PURPOSE AND SCOPE:
Under direct supervision, the Part Time Assistant II, Chemistry Lab is position is responsible for routine lab preparation duties. May be responsible for tracking laboratory equipment and supplies. Position refers problems to experts as needed. Activities involve a variety of routine tasks such as cleaning glassware, and many non-routine tasks that require independent judgment to resolve issues.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
  • Supports lab manager and faculty in preparation and delivery of labs
  • Prepares some lab solutions
  • Properly handles and disposes of laboratory wastes
  • Provides routine lab support including all aspects of lab safety, cleaning and dishwashing, and inspection and maintenance of lab classrooms including equipment and supplies needed for each class period
  • Performs record keeping requiring accuracy and attention to detail
  • Works with faculty and students as needed for special projects; Ensures proper supplies and safety procedures during this time
  • Responsible for other reasonable, related duties as assigned

  • KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
    • Must be computer literate
    • Safety record and safety consciousness
    • Flexible and creative to perform multiple tasks simultaneously
    • Ability to work with a diverse group of faculty and staff
    PHYSICAL ABILITIES:
    The work requires some physical exertion, such as significant standing, walking and pushing carts; lifting up to 30 pounds and/or or recurring lifting of moderately heavy items; recurring bending, crouching, stooping, stretching, reaching, or similar activities. The work may require specific, but common, physical characteristics and abilities, such as above average agility and dexterity.
    WORK SCHEDULE AND CONDITIONS:
    • Equipment used includes, PC workstation running on a LAN in a Microsoft Windows environment, calculator, phone and other general office equipment
    • Interface with internal and external contacts as needed to carry out the functions of the position
    • Work is performed in a climate-controlled office and/or laboratory environment with exposure to safety hazards typical in a laboratory (working with chemicals, moving equipment, etc.)
    • Safety protocol must be strictly followed at all times
    • Work schedule is flexible around student class and work schedule, but priority will be given to staffing at peak demand times for chemistry labs
    REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
    • High School Diploma or GED and at least 1 year of related work experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
    • Completion of appropriate college level science coursework

    Salary
    Hourly Pay Rate is $15.60.
