After Abortion Support Specialist

Remote | Part-Time


Overview: Support After Abortion is seeking a compassionate, reliable, and emotionally steady After Abortion Support Specialist to provide direct support to people reaching out through the

After Abortion Line.


This role is primarily text, email, and live chat, with occasional phone support. Clients may be experiencing grief, guilt, shame, regret, anger, confusion, relief, numbness, isolation, or mixed emotions after abortion. Some know what kind of support they want; others simply know they are hurting and need a safe place to start.


The right person is an exceptional written communicator and careful listener who can respond to sensitive conversations with warmth, empathy, patience, and professionalism.

This is not a counseling, crisis-line, political advocacy, or religious counseling role. Our approach is client-led and nonjudgmental. We listen, offer compassionate support, and help clients identify appropriate resources and next steps.


Responsibilities

  • Respond to clients through text, email, live chat, and occasional phone calls
  • Provide compassionate, nonjudgmental support to people impacted by abortion
  • Listen carefully, recognize emotionally significant details, and ask thoughtful follow-up questions
  • Reflect and validate what clients share without rushing to fix, advise, persuade, or share personal experiences
  • Connect clients with appropriate support options, resources, and referrals
  • Document client interactions clearly and accurately while maintaining confidentiality
  • Complete follow-up tasks and maintain timely communication
  • Follow established communication guidelines, boundaries, protocols, and escalation procedures
  • Participate in training, feedback, and ongoing skill development
  • Collaborate with team members to provide consistent, high-quality client support

What We're Looking For

  • Excellent written communication and active listening skills
  • Warm, empathetic, and nonjudgmental communication style
  • Emotional steadiness when responding to grief, shame, anger, trauma, panic, or uncertainty
  • Strong attention to detail, organization, responsiveness, and follow-through
  • Ability to respect each client's words, beliefs, values, and pace
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and professional boundaries
  • Comfort working independently in a remote environment
  • Willingness to learn and consistently follow Support After Abortion's support model
  • Basic computer skills and comfort using email, chat, and online documentation systems
  • Bilingual English/Spanish strongly preferred

Experience in support lines, peer support, social services, healthcare, behavioral health, case management, client advocacy, customer service, or other roles involving sensitive conversations is helpful but not required.


More important than a particular professional background are compassion, emotional steadiness, excellent communication, reliability, and coachability.


Schedule

This is a remote, part-time position. Hours are scheduled based on After Abortion Line coverage needs. Candidates must have availability during weekday business hours.
