Can I do a part-time internship?

A part-time public relations internship is common and typically involves working fewer hours than a full-time role, often around 20 hours per week. Internships usually have flexible schedules and may require basic skills in communication, social media, or media outreach. Eligibility depends on the company's requirements and your availability, but part-time internships are designed to accommodate students or individuals seeking experience while managing other commitments.

Is 20 an hour good for an intern?

For a part-time public relations intern, $20 an hour is above the average internship pay, which typically ranges from minimum wage to around $15 per hour. Interns often gain experience and skills in communication, media outreach, and social media management, and higher pay may reflect the level of responsibility or specialized skills required.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Part Time Public Relations Intern, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Part Time Public Relations Intern, you need strong written and verbal communication skills, basic knowledge of public relations principles, and typically a background in communications, marketing, or related studies. Familiarity with media monitoring tools, social media platforms, and Microsoft Office is commonly expected. Initiative, adaptability, and teamwork are standout soft skills for this role. These skills enable interns to effectively support PR campaigns, adapt to fast-paced environments, and contribute to positive brand representation.

What are Part Time Public Relations Interns?

Part Time Public Relations Interns are individuals who support a company's PR team on a part-time basis, typically while completing their studies or gaining initial experience in the field. Their responsibilities may include drafting press releases, managing social media accounts, conducting media research, and assisting with event planning. This role provides hands-on experience in public relations and is designed to help interns develop skills in communication, media relations, and branding. Working part time allows interns to balance their internship with other commitments, such as school or another job.

Is a PR internship worth it?

A part-time public relations internship provides hands-on experience in media outreach, communication strategies, and industry tools like press release writing. It can enhance your resume, develop professional skills, and improve job prospects in the communications field. However, the value depends on the internship's quality and how well it aligns with your career goals.

How do I get into PR with no experience?

To get into a public relations internship with no experience, focus on developing strong communication skills, creating a portfolio of writing or social media work, and gaining relevant knowledge through online courses or certifications. Volunteering for local organizations or student groups can also provide practical experience and demonstrate initiative to employers.

How can a Part Time Public Relations Intern make a strong impact within a limited work schedule?

As a Part Time Public Relations Intern, you can maximize your impact by proactively communicating with your supervisor about your availability and focusing on high-priority tasks such as drafting press releases, monitoring media coverage, and supporting event planning. Building strong relationships with team members and staying organized will help you contribute effectively, even with limited hours. Being resourceful and eager to learn will also set you apart, as PR teams often value fresh perspectives and the ability to quickly adapt to fast-paced environments.

Job description

Part-Time PR Specialist / Consultant (Tech + Consumer Media)
ย Company: FORONE
Location: Remote (U.S.-based preferred, Bay Area candidates a plus)
Type: Part-time (15โ€“25 hrs/week)

About FORONE
FORONE is a cross-border marketing and growth consultancy helping global companies enter and scale in the U.S. market. We specialize in go-to-market strategy, narrative building, and integrated campaigns across emerging industries including robotics, AI, and consumer tech.
Our clients range from early-stage startups to high-growth companies navigating U.S. expansionโ€”from stealth-mode launches to major milestones such as CES.

Role Overview
We are looking for a Part-Time PR Specialist / Consultant to lead media strategy and execution across both B2B tech and consumer-facing brands. This role is ideal for someone who understands how to translate complex products into compelling narratives, build strong relationships with media, and drive earned coverage that supports go-to-market goals.
You will work closely with our internal strategy team and founders to shape positioning, pitch stories, and secure high-impact media placements.

Key Responsibilities:
Media Strategy & Narrative Development
  • Develop PR strategies aligned with product stage (MVP to launch to scale, growth)
  • Craft compelling narratives for emerging tech (AI, robotics, SaaS) and consumer-facing products
  • Translate technical concepts into clear, media-friendly story angles
Media Relations & Outreach
  • Build and manage relationships with tech, business, and consumer/lifestyle media
  • Pitch and secure coverage across top-tier and niche publications
  • Coordinate interviews, embargoes, and media briefings
Campaign Execution
  • Lead PR efforts for product launches, fundraising announcements, and major events (e.g., CES)
  • Develop press materials including press releases, media kits, and talking points
  • Manage outreach pipeline and follow-ups
Media Intelligence & Reporting
  • Identify relevant journalists, editors, and creators
  • Monitor trends across tech and consumer media landscapes
  • Track performance metrics such as coverage quality and message pull-through
  • Provide insights and recommendations for optimization
Cross-Functional Collaboration
  • Work closely with strategy, content, and GTM teams
  • Support narrative testing and positioning refinement
  • Align PR efforts with broader marketing and growth objectives
Qualifications:

Required
  • 5+ years of PR experience in tech and/or consumer media
  • Strong relationships with U.S.-based journalists and media outlets
  • Proven track record of securing meaningful media coverage
  • Experience working with startups or high-growth companies
  • Excellent storytelling and writing skills
Preferred
  • Experience supporting U.S. market entry for global companies
  • Familiarity with founder-led storytelling
  • Experience with B2B, robotics, or consumer tech narratives
  • Exposure to venture ecosystem and fundraising announcements
  • Experience with major industry events such as CES, SXSW, or TechCrunch Disrupt

What Itโ€™s Like Working with FORONE
  • We move fast and operate like a startupโ€”things are often in motion, not fully defined
  • We value people who take ownership and drive things forward without waiting for instructions
  • We think strategically, but care deeply about execution and getting things done
  • We work closely as a team and with our clientsโ€”clear communication and collaboration matter
Compensation
  • Hourly: $75 โ€“ $100 per hour
  • Flexible based on experience, media relationships, and scope of work
  • Estimated commitment: 15โ€“25 hours per week
We are open to structuring this as a monthly retainer depending on engagement scope.

How to Apply
ย In addition to your resume, please include:
  • Your LinkedIn profile
  • 2โ€“3 examples of relevant media placements or PR case studies
  • A brief note outlining your approach to PR for early-stage or cross-border companies
