What is a part time project manager?

Part time project managers are professionals who oversee projects while working fewer hours than a full-time role, often less than 40 hours per week. They are responsible for planning, executing, and closing projects, managing teams, budgets, and timelines, but on a reduced schedule. This role is ideal for organizations with limited project needs or for professionals seeking flexible work arrangements. Part time project managers use the same skills and tools as full-time project managers but may focus on smaller projects or work with multiple clients.

What does a part time project manager do?

A part-time project manager oversees all aspects of a business, development, IT, or operational improvement project for a client or employer. In this position, your responsibilities include planning the budget, creating a schedule for the project, and setting benchmarks to monitor progress. You also document progress and coordinate with vendors to ensure that the project team has the necessary services and supplies to complete their tasks on time. You contact clients to report the status of the project. Part-time managers work in an office for either part of a day or a limited number of days per week.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a part time project manager, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Part Time Project Manager, you need strong organizational, leadership, and time management skills, often supported by a degree in business or a related field and relevant project management experience. Familiarity with project management software such as Asana, Trello, or Microsoft Project, and certifications like PMP or CAPM, are typically required. These skills are crucial for efficiently leading projects, coordinating part-time teams, and ensuring timely project completion despite limited hours.

How do part time project managers effectively balance multiple projects and communicate with full time team members?

Part-time project managers often face the challenge of managing multiple projects with limited hours, making communication and organization crucial. To ensure project success, they typically set clear expectations with stakeholders about their availability and use project management tools to streamline updates and collaboration. Regular check-ins, concise status reports, and leveraging asynchronous communication platforms help bridge any gaps between part-time and full-time team members. This proactive approach ensures that everyone remains aligned and projects stay on track.

Job description

Field Assistant

Renovation Rewind | Part-time | $18–$20 per hour

Renovation Rewind is looking for a reliable, detail-oriented Field Assistant to visit our active job sites, keep our project managers in the loop, and make sure every project meets our quality standards from first walkthrough to final inspection. You'll work three set days a week, driving a company truck between sites - no desk time, no two days the same.

Schedule & Pay

  • Monday, Wednesday, Friday, 8:00 AM – 4:00 PM (about 24 hours/week)
  • $18–$20 per hour, depending on experience
  • Company work truck provided for all scheduled shifts

What You'll Do

  • Visit assigned job sites each scheduled day to check on progress and conditions
  • Give project managers a same-day update on every site you visit
  • Walk projects for quality control - compare work against plans and specs, and flag anything that's off
  • Handle closing inspections on finished projects and track down any last punch-list items
  • Take clear, organized photos at every visit to document progress and quality
  • Submit a daily written update for each site you visited
  • Represent Renovation Rewind professionally with subcontractors and clients on site

What We're Looking For

  • Valid driver's license and a clean driving record
  • Experience in construction, renovation, or a related trade preferred
  • A good eye for work that doesn't meet spec
  • Comfortable using a smartphone for photos, texting, and email updates
  • Reliable, organized, and able to work independently across multiple sites in a day

Physical Requirements

  • Comfortable walking active job sites, including uneven ground and stairs
  • Able to occasionally lift up to 35 lbs
  • Able to climb ladders and access spaces like attics or crawl spaces
  • Comfortable working outdoors in a variety of weather conditions

Why Renovation Rewind

  • Set part-time schedule that won't take over your whole week
  • Company truck means no wear and tear on your own vehicle
  • Real ownership over the quality of every project you touch

Renovation Rewind is an equal opportunity employer. We consider all qualified applicants without regard to race, color, religion, sex, national origin, age, disability, or any other status protected by law.
