In a part-time print production role, you can expect to handle various tasks such as operating printing equipment, preparing materials for print runs, managing print schedules, and performing quality checks on finished products. You'll often work closely with graphic designers, account managers, and other production staff to ensure each project meets client specifications and deadlines. Job description

PART-TIME PRINT SHOP PRODUCTION MANAGER

Flexible Hours - Hands on Role

Location: Washington, DC
Schedule: Part-Time (15–25 hours/week, flexible)

About Us

We’re a 32-year established printing company with a loyal customer base and a tight-knit team of 6. Our operation is stable, busy, and well-positioned for continued growth.

We’re not a corporate environment—we’re a practical, fast-moving shop that values reliability, quality, and getting the job done right.

Why This Role Exists

We’re looking for an experienced production professional to take ownership of the production floor, bring structure to workflow, and ensure jobs move efficiently—without constant oversight.

Success in this role means production runs smoothly day-to-day.

What You’ll Do (Core Responsibilities)

1. Own Production Workflow

  • Manage daily job scheduling and prioritization
  • Ensure jobs move efficiently from customer service → production → delivery
  • Prevent bottlenecks and last-minute fire drills

2. Lead the Production Team

  • Oversee 3 production employees
  • Provide direction, accountability, and production support
  • Maintain quality standards and deadlines

3. Improve Systems & Organization

  • Bring structure to how jobs are tracked and executed
  • Improve communication between customer service and production
  • Reduce errors, rework, and confusion

4. Be Hands-On When Needed

  • Step in on the floor during busy periods
  • Troubleshoot production issues in real time

Who This Is For

This role is ideal for someone who:

  • Has real-world print production experience (not just theory)
  • Has managed or led production in a print shop or similar environment
  • Enjoys fixing workflow and making operations run cleanly
  • Prefers a flexible, lower-stress role over a full-time grind
  • Takes ownership and doesn’t need constant direction

Who This Is NOT For

  • Someone looking for a purely administrative or desk-only role
  • Someone without hands-on production experience
  • Someone who needs a highly structured corporate environment

What Success Looks Like (90 Days)

  • Production runs on schedule with minimal owner involvement
  • Clear workflow from order intake to completion
  • Fewer errors, smoother handoffs, less chaos
  • Team knows what to do without constant direction

Compensation

  • Competitive $30-$40 / hourly (based on experience)
  • Flexible schedule
  • Stable, respectful work environment

Why This Role Is Different

  • No corporate politics
  • No unnecessary meetings
  • Real ownership and impact
  • Flexibility with a stable, established company

How to Apply

If you’ve run production in a print environment and want a role where your experience actually makes a difference—let’s talk.
