Job Title: PRN Physician Assistant - Pre-Admission Testing (PAT)
Location: University Medical Center
Department: Pre-Admission Testing
Schedule: PRN (As Needed)

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Physician Assistant seeking work-life balance while maintaining clinical practice in a collaborative academic medical center environment.
Position Summary
The Physician Assistant (PA) - Pre-Admission Testing provides advanced, patient-centered care by performing comprehensive preoperative assessments and ensuring patients are medically optimized prior to procedures. Working in collaboration with supervising physicians, the PA evaluates patient health status, orders and interprets diagnostics, and ensures safe, efficient surgical readiness.
Key Responsibilities
Clinical Care & Patient Assessment
  • Conduct thorough, age-appropriate patient evaluations including:
    • Medical history
    • Physical examinations
    • Risk stratification for surgical readiness
  • Assess, analyze, and synthesize clinical data to determine appropriate care plans.
  • Order, perform, and interpret diagnostic tests, labs, and screenings.
  • Develop and implement treatment strategies and recommendations based on findings.
  • Evaluate patient response to interventions and adjust plans as needed.
Preoperative Coordination & Collaboration
  • Collaborate closely with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and supervising physicians to ensure patients are optimized for surgery.
  • Escalate complex or high-risk cases to supervising physicians when appropriate.
  • Communicate effectively with multidisciplinary teams to ensure continuity and efficiency of care.
  • Assist in coordinating appropriate referrals and follow-ups prior to procedures.
Quality, Compliance & Documentation
  • Accurately document all patient encounters, assessments, and plans in accordance with organizational and regulatory standards.
  • Participate in patient care audits with supervising physicians to ensure compliance and quality outcomes.
  • Maintain strict adherence to HIPAA and patient confidentiality policies.
Professional Development & Engagement
  • Stay current on clinical best practices, guidelines, and advancements relevant to preoperative care.
  • Participate in continuing education to maintain licensure and certifications.
  • Engage in departmental initiatives, policy development, and performance improvement activities as appropriate.
  • May serve as a preceptor to PA students when applicable.
Required Qualifications
Education
  • Master's Degree in Physician Assistant Studies (MS-PAS) from an accredited program

Licensure & Certifications
  • Current Physician Assistant (PA) license - Louisiana State Board of Medical Examiners
  • BLS (Basic Life Support - AHA)
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support - AHA)
  • Current and unrestricted:
    • DEA registration (Louisiana)
    • Controlled Dangerous Substance (CDS) certificate
  • Active clinical privileges through Medical Staff Office
