Description
Primary Function:
  • The Registered Nurse PAT coordinates and evaluates preoperative screening for assigned patients in a timely fashion. The Registered Nurse established a friendly, efficient, preoperative process for patients having surgery at the Wills Eye Surgery Center in Cherry Hill.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  1. Manages the PAT chart creation process, ensuring accuracy and completion for physician review. (EKG, cardiac clearance, H&P's, etc.).
  2. Communicates and assists in arranging additional clearance appointments, required testing, and acquisition of outstanding notes, clearances, and test results.
  3. Works in conjunction with anesthesia staff to address outstanding documentation for clearances.
  4. Collaborates with Physicians to provide results, review complex or unclear medical information and documents all interactions in EMR. Maintains complete communication with Physician and peers regarding requests and scheduled appointments.
  5. Communicates regularly with other administrative and clinical members throughout the pre-admission process in the event surgical cases are canceled or rescheduled.
  6. Initiates indicated patient care plans. Ensures plan of care reflects the patient needs. Provides instruction, information, and counseling to patients and their families as needed.
  7. Files operative and pathology notes in patient charts and logs surgical specimens.
  8. Obtains complete medical history and retrieves records as indicated. Responsible for daily review of requests, faxes, and completed clearances.
  9. Identifies special needs of the patient and/or family to assure proper patient care.
  10. Maintains accurate control and secure confidentiality of records and documentation.
  11. Checks and responds to emails in a timely and efficient manner
  12. Responds to telephone inquiries promptly, screens calls, and provides information to patients and staff as needed.
  13. Performs additional office support functions as requested.

Position Requirements
Requirements:
  • Associate's Degree in Nursing required; Bachelor of Science in Nursing preferred from a nationally accredited nursing program
  • Registered Nurse license in the state of New Jersey required
  • BLS certification required
  • 2-4 years of related experience required, 4-6 years preferred
  • Strong medical terminology accumen
