Do you have a Masters or PhD in chemistry, biochemistry or life science? Do you want to make an impact in public health? Are you ready to take your career to the next level? If this is you, then the Utah Public Health Laboratory has a fully funded position for 2 years. As a post-masters scientist, you will assist with enhancing our current screening assays in the mass spectrometry laboratory of the newborn screening section.The Utah NBS Program focuses on constant process improvement for the best outcomes possible for infants born in Utah.
The post-doctoral scientist directly supports the DHHS mission of improving the health of infants born in Utah State by:
Expanding our LC-MS/MS platform with additional assays for new conditions
Researching new methods and equipment.
Validating methods and equipment.
Performing a wide variety of laboratory tests todetect treatable heritable disorders in newborns.
Key Responsibilities
Some responsibilities include but not limited to:
  • Scientific literature curation.
  • Developing training and SOPs for newly developed methods and instruments.
  • Presenting results, findings, and updates in meetings involving staff of all levels.
  • Partnering with NBS staff to evaluate new technologies for existing tests.
  • Using statistical analysis to interpret experimental data.
  • Interacting with the CDC NSQAP for quality assurance and quality improvement.

Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Experience with method development.
  • Experience with liquid chromatography.
  • Experience with tandem mass spectrometry.
  • Experience with newborn screening.
  • Creative approaches to problem solving and quality improvement.
  • Experience with Google drive and associated office companion software.
  • Strong communication skills.

Preference may be given to applicants with:
  • A PhD with less than a year of post-doctoral experience.
  • Experience in wet lab/bench work.
  • Excellent verbal and written skills.
  • Impeccable attention-to-detail skills.
  • Top-notch time management skills.
