Job description

The Assistant Coach for the ACU Pom Squad serves under the direction of the Director of Spirit and Traditions and is responsible for supporting the overall success, development, and daily operations of the Pom Squad. This position focuses on coaching, choreography, performance preparation, and student-athlete development while fostering engagement between the Pom Squad, the student body, and ACU Athletics.

The Pom Assistant will also support the implementation of university traditions and special events coordinated through the Department of Student Engagement and the Division of Student Life.

This is a part-time, contract worker position.

Essential Responsibilities:

Student Development and Program Support

  • Assist and support the Director of Spirit with the daily operations of the Pom Squad.

  • Provide support during practices, performances, game days, and team activities.

  • Mentor and advise student-athletes in their personal, academic, and leadership development.

  • Promote a positive team culture that emphasizes integrity, accountability, and excellence.

  • Assist with communication and coordination between student-athletes and program leadership.

Performance and Event Support

  • Assist with choreography implementation, routine preparation, and performance readiness.

  • Support music organization and performance logistics.

  • Assist with game-day and event operations involving the Pom Squad.

  • Help coordinate appearances, performances, and spirit-related events throughout the academic year.

Program Administration and Collaboration

  • Maintain regular office hours during the workweek.

  • Assist with scheduling, communication, and administrative duties related to the Pom program.

  • Collaborate with all ACU spirit programs to promote unity and shared goals.

  • Assist with the planning and execution of university traditions and student engagement initiatives.

  • Build positive relationships with ACU Athletics, Student Life, and other campus partners.

  • Support recruiting, retention, and development efforts for prospective and current student-athletes.

Attendance and Availability

  • Attend all scheduled team practices, rehearsals, performances, competitions, and designated team functions.

  • Attend athletic events and appearances as assigned, including evenings, weekdays, weekends, and university holidays as necessary.

  • Maintain regularly scheduled office hours during the workweek to support student-athletes and program operations.

  • Be available for team meetings, recruiting activities, choreography sessions, and other program-related responsibilities as assigned by the Director of Spirit and Traditions.

  • Assist with game-day operations, travel, and special events throughout the academic year.

Qualifications:

Professional Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree preferred.

  • Experience in dance, spirit programs, athletics, student leadership, or related fields preferred.

  • Ability to effectively mentor and advise college students.

  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to work collaboratively within a team-oriented environment.

Physical Demands

  • Ability to stand for extended periods during practices, games, performances, and events.

  • Ability to assist with demonstrations and instruction of dance skills and techniques as necessary.

  • Ability to lift, move, and transport equipment and materials related to team activities and events.

  • Ability to travel and work evenings and weekends as required by the program schedule.
