General Description
SUNY Niagara has a need for a part time Technical Assistant to work in Physics department within our Business & STEM division.
This position will help the Physics Instructor prep the physics lab to ensure that the intended experiments work correctly in order to successfully reinforce the lecture concepts.
The rate of pay is based on the level of education the candidate possesses. For a Bachelor's degree or lower the rate of pay will be $22.52 per hour. For a Master's degree or higher the rate of pay will be $24.76 per hour.
Typical Work Activities
  • Prepare materials for use in undergraduate physics laboratories including non-calculus based and calculus based physics labs;
  • Set up and remove class materials weekly in laboratory classrooms;
  • Manage inventory including maintaining records, recommend purchasing;
  • Ensure lab equipment is maintained and functioning properly.

Essential Functions
Must be able to operate computers; must be able to relate to a diverse population of students; must be able to relate to faculty, staff, and senior members of the administration; must be able to communicate verbally and in writing; must be able to physically perform the functions of the position.
Required Qualifications
  • Associate's degree or higher in Physics or a degree in a physics-related field with at least 6 lab-based science classes at the undergraduate or graduate level.
  • Exceptional organizational and time-management skills.

Desirable Qualifications
Experience maintaining physics equipment and other laboratory instruments.
