Description
SCOPE: This position interacts with K-5 grade students and their families in the Afterschool Program at Stars.
CLASSIFICATION: This position is classified as hourly, part-time, non-exempt
COMPENSATION: $18.04
HOURS: Up to 23 hours per week
Must be available Monday - Thursday, 3pm-7pm
Occasional weekend events
Flexible administrative hours
Availability to work Summer Programs from 8:00am - 2:00pm
QUALIFICATIONS: The ideal candidate possesses:
a) experience working with K-5 grade students
b) a commitment to Stars' mission, vision, and values
c) excellent interpersonal and communication skills
d) Spanish-speaking skills desired
e) a high level of integrity, self-motivation, and desire for excellence
f) proficiency in Google products
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  1. With the guidance and mentorship of the Program Manager, this position assists in maintaining a culture in which students, families, and volunteers:

a) thrive academically, emotionally, economically, and spiritually
b) feel safe, cared for, supported, and appreciated
c) have opportunities to build relationships, deepen faith, and learn from one another
d) live life confidently in identity, purpose, and place in the world
e) practice a lifestyle of generosity with time, talents, and resources
f) analyze environment and face adversity with resilience
g) understand the Afterschool program goals, expectations, and requirements
h) feel equipped and prepared for their role at Stars
i) engage in quality, enriching, age-appropriate activities and experiences
j) establish SMART goals and healthy expectations
2. With the guidance and mentorship of the Program Manager, the Program Assistant is responsible for implementing all activities of the Afterschool Program:
a) maintain a safe, welcoming, clean, learning environment
b) lead an efficient check-in/check-out process
c) collect, record, and update data and contact information
d) observe, monitor, and participate in all program components
e) demonstrate consistent enforcement of behavior guidance system
f) ensure age-appropriate supplies are ordered and available
g) update student folders, attendance, and academic progress
h) send weekly communication updates via email, text, phone, social media, etc.
i) be familiar with best practices for pre-teen youth development
j) be familiar with grade-specific performance indicators for grades 4 - 5
k) Help coordinate transportation to and from program when needed
l) perform other related duties as necessary
3. The Program Assistant will collaborate with:
a) Program Manager for planning, implementation strategies, and mentoring
b) Afterschool program's families for relationship building and partnership
c) Stars' staff, volunteers, ministry leaders, and community partners for support
d) Pasadena Unified School District for support
e) Committee members and event organizers for support
WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
a. Physical ability to work around students including sitting, standing, running, kneeling and climbing stairs for extended periods of time.
b. Must be able to see and respond quickly to situations and alerts..
c. Must be able to work in loud environments.
d. Must be able to lift and carry or otherwise move 25 pounds occasionally.
e. Work at a computer, requiring the ability to send and receive information with necessary optical, auditory, and manual dexterity.
f. Use a keyboard and mouse to enter, retrieve or transfer words or data information and/or move from screen to screen on the computer to view information.
g. Strong written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills; comprehend and speak English.
h. Display the reading skills necessary to proofread written material.
i. Perform basic mathematical calculations.
