How much do part time pharmacists jobs pay per hour?

As of Jun 17, 2026, the average hourly pay for part time pharmacists in the United States is $60.91, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $56.01 and $67.31 per hour, depending on experience, location, and employer.

What are part-time pharmacists?

Part-time pharmacists are licensed pharmacy professionals who work fewer hours than a standard full-time schedule, often filling shifts as needed or on a flexible basis. They perform all the duties of a full-time pharmacist, such as dispensing medications, providing patient counseling, and ensuring medication safety, but may have a reduced workload or limited benefits. Part-time roles can offer greater work-life balance and flexibility, making them ideal for those juggling other commitments or seeking to reduce hours without leaving the profession.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Part Time Pharmacist, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Part Time Pharmacist, you need a Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) degree, a valid pharmacist license, and solid knowledge of drug therapies and regulations. Familiarity with pharmacy management systems, medication dispensing software, and drug interaction databases is typically required. Strong attention to detail, customer service orientation, and effective communication are essential soft skills for this role. These skills ensure safe medication dispensing, regulatory compliance, and positive patient interactions in a dynamic work environment.

What is the difference between Part Time Pharmacists vs Full Time Pharmacists?

AspectPart Time PharmacistsFull Time Pharmacists
Work HoursFewer hours, typically less than 30 hours/weekStandard full-time hours, usually 40+ hours/week
CredentialsSame licensing and certifications as full-time pharmacistsSame licensing and certifications as part-time pharmacists
Work EnvironmentRetail pharmacies, hospitals, clinics, often flexible schedules
Employer UsageUsed by pharmacies needing flexible staffingUsed by pharmacies requiring consistent staffing levels

Part Time Pharmacists and Full Time Pharmacists share the same credentials and work in similar environments. The main difference lies in hours worked and scheduling flexibility. Both roles are essential in healthcare settings, with part-time positions offering more flexibility for pharmacists seeking reduced hours.

How do part-time pharmacists typically balance shift flexibility with consistent patient care responsibilities?

Part-time pharmacists often work varying schedules, which can include evenings, weekends, or split shifts. To maintain consistent patient care, they communicate closely with full-time colleagues and pharmacy technicians to ensure smooth handovers and thorough documentation. This collaborative approach helps ensure that medication reviews, patient counseling, and prescription verifications are seamlessly managed, even when team members change between shifts. Flexibility is a key advantage, but it also requires strong organizational and communication skills to deliver high-quality care in a dynamic environment.
